Chris and Des are joined by several guests this week. First Wiggy is here for most of the show to talk about the recent news of mismanagement & payment issues on a NY lucha show, the issues or the upcoming ROH/SCUM Steel Cage Warfare, and why we should be looking forward to DGUSA in NY. Other guests on this show include Alan Denkenson of Quintessential Pro to preview their upcoming 2nd ever show and what went into the creation of the promotion & your questions. We are also joined for a short period of time by Giant Tiger, who in a rather tame discussion, discusses the upcoming Inter Species Wrestling show. This and more discussed on the Weekly Newscast. As always we appreciate the feedback mailed to mailbag@pwponderings.com

  1. Bryan Alvarez from f4wonline/wrestlingobserver about a year or year and a 1/2 ago had Gabe Sapolsky on. One of the fan questions was why is there a DVD delay? Gabe said that Sal got seriously ill and this is why there has been a delay on the DVD releases. Pretty much Gabe said Sal is pretty much the only one who handles the DVD’s. When he got seriously ill, they had to put hold on DVD production.

  2. Technically after Sal got ill, it did take longer than the it used to be, even though it was long. So technically before Sal got ill they did get it out a little bit quicker.

  3. I dont believe that is true because even before Sal got ill, they were still behind on DVDs and the illness just compounded the issue. The complaints of the length of time between DVDs were already a part of why DGUSA and EVOLVE weren’t catching on so unless you have a timetable to show that the time period between DVD release and events I just can’t say that it was quicker before his health issues.

  4. DGUSA Open the Historical Gate 2009.

    Live Taping was on 07/25/09
    PPV was 09/04/09
    DVD was available on 10/04/09

3 months back then. Now it is more like over over 1 year.

It we really want to get really nit-picky. we could count it by individual days.

  5. But that is just one event. Before Sal’s illness there were already complaints about the time it took and it has progressively gotten worse. Reason or not, and of course none of us are not sympathetic to Sal’s health. Health should always come first, but there is a point where they customers feel a sense of loss within the product. Perhaps it has gotten worse post Sal’s illness but it certainly doesn’t feel as if they have caught up to any recognizable degree that at this point has any reason that is sufficient enough to explain it.

While I couldn’t find any actual evidence of when certain DVDs came out, I can showcase the United triple shot that occurred in Jan of 2011. While it is not clear cut evidence, the DVD reviews of these events didn’t seem to appear until around July of 2011, almost 6 months after the events. While that may certainly be better than a year or more, this was well before Sal’s health issues.

  6. Maybe I misheard you or took out of context what you said on the show. It seemed like you were making it sound like every single DVD they released took over a year to come out or something.

  7. Oh no, I wasn’t trying to say that, just saying that it has taken an inordinate amount of time for a while. Not every single one, but certainly a majority of them were not released within 3 months which used to be the typical waiting time but when you have the guys over at SMV getting events out on DVD literally within 24 hours there has to be a certain time period where the consumer just doesn’t want to put up with waiting any longer. I mean we’re just now getting shows from EVOLVE with Bobby Fish still on them. Ridiculous.
