OVW LogoWe kick off the show with an announcement about The Nightmare Rumble. Tonight we will see a small preview called “The Nightmare Scramble.” The first man eliminated from the scramble, will be the first entrant in the rumble, and the winner of the scramble, has the right to be the last entrant of the rumble.

I love this idea. Pretty original, and instantly I am interested in tonight’s scramble. I have to give credit to OVW for such a nice idea for their TV show. It’s a great lead in to the Nightmare Rumble, on Saturday Night’s Special.

As we are getting a reminder of tonight’s tag team main event, Referee Chris Sharpe and Jamin Olivencia vs. Marcus Anthony, and his manager, Timmy Danger. Chris Sharpe hits the ring, with a live mic.

He admits that he screwed Jamin, by letting Danger push his buttons, and he DQ’ed Anthony. That said, he wants Jamin out here, because he is not a wrestler, and will not help Jamin in a wrestling match. Jamin quickly obliges, and hits the ring. Jamin says “You said you’d make this right, and this is going to happen.” Jamin then asks Sharpe, “what are you going to do? Are you going to make this right, or not?” Sharpe doesn’t reply so Jamin says “yes, you are!” Sharpe is teaming with Jamin tonight, to take on Anthony and Danger.

While getting a ref involved in a match seems a bit off, this story is being told fairly well. It has me intrigued, and has it seeming as if Jamin might go heel, you know, forcing this referee, friend of his, to wrestle. I wonder though, if this may lead to a heel turn for Sharpe? Will they go with Sharpe, being disgusted by his friend wanting a shot so bad, that he’d put him in harm’s way? Then he will be trained by Anthony, to be a wrestler? Not sure, just my thoughts on a possible swerve.

After the break we get Dylan Bostic, with Ray Lyn. Bostic is going to introduce the next wingman candidate, and it’s Jessie Godderz. Is this guy gonna be a Bro-man and a Wing-Man? Godderz poses with Ray, then all three pose for a selfie, then they force the ref to take a picture of all three, as the announce team does a great job insisting that Bostic, and Godderz, are taking advantage of Ray’s desire to be famous. She’s a sweet girl, being used by opportunistic wrestlers.

I love that, it makes you feel for Ray, and hope for her to eventually see the light.

Godderz, and Bostic, are teaming up to take on two guys that I don’t even know who they are. They are pulling off all kinds of goofy hijinks, as they dominate the match. Godderz has improved in the ring, but is still pretty green. Bostic is very good, even with the goofy gimmick of being the “Justin Bieber of professional wrestling.” Ray Lyn reaches in, and holds one of the opponents down, something she normally never does, so the announce team asks “does Ray know what she’s doing after all? Has she been playing the dumb card?” Bostic hits a big elbow off the top, and they win the match. Bostic announces that he’s found his Wing-Man and its Jessie Godderz.

I’m glad the search is over but I don’t love seeing a Bro-Man’s type of team on two different wresting shows. Ray Lyn helps me deal with it a little, I suppose. I look for the day she turns on them though.

It’s time for the Nightmare Scramble!

T.P.T. is the first entrant, followed by Adam Revolver, of the Mobile Homers, with Brittany Devour, wearing the stolen OVW Southern Tag Team titles. How fitting that both of these guys fighting, look like two guys from a trailer park rolling around. I enjoy OVW, but two guys in jeans and a t-shirt, just doesn’t scream pro wrestling. Tony Gunn is the third man in and he instantly attacks TPT. So now we have Revolver and Gunn attacking TPT. Shiloh Jones is the next in, and now it’s three on one against TPT. Eddie Diamond is next, and he helps TPT, who has managed to survive the 3 on 1. Flash Flanagan is in now, but the rest of The Marauders ht the ring, and TBT and Flanagan are eliminated at the same time. Will they now both be the first entrants? Shiloh and Gunn get pulled out immediately by Flash and TPT! They brawl on the outside.

After the break, The Body Guy is in the ring, and Mr. Marvelous is next in. Marvelous and Body go after Diamond and Revolver. We get word from OVW management that Flash and TPT will indeed begin the Nightmare Rumble together as first entrants. These two used to hate each other, but have teamed up as of late. Will this set their old rivalry back in motion? Ted McNaler, of the Mobile Homers, is next in, and he, of course, is helping Adam Revolver. Major tension between Mr. Marvelous and The Body guy, as The Body Guy is insisting Melvin eliminate himself. Here comes Lei’D Tapa..yeah, mixed gender…I guess…she beats everyone down until she gets The Body Guy, hitting him with her finisher. A masked man, in a trench coat, hits the ring with a billy club, and nails Tapa in the back of the knee with it. Several other female wrestlers come out, to escort Tapa out of the ring. At the half way point of this episode, The Homers, Eddie Diamond, The Body Guy and Mr. Marvelous are still in the scramble match. Ali and Hayes hit ringside and take their belts back, and The Homers jump the top rope to get the belts back, eliminating themselves! The Homers use Brittany as a Shield, and make it out of the arena with one of the OVW tag title belts. Eddie Diamond eliminates The Body Guy, and immediately, Mr. Marvelous eliminates Diamond, winning the scramble! Mr. Marvelous will be the last entrant in The Nightmare Rumble!  The fans love it! They chant “Melvin, Melvin, Melvin” The Body Guy looks furious, as Marvelous just smiles. They still leave ringside together.

Marvelous is clearly a fan favorite, so he won’t be with the very hated “Body Guy” much longer. I just don’t know what they plan will be. I can’t see Marvelous going against Body, in an actual match. That would be a joke. They are going to need someone, for the Body, to manage, in Melvin’s place. I’m just not sure who that is, at this point.

Now it’s The Shooter, Jay Bradley. Complete with cut man, flag draped over his shoulders, and a very MMA looking title belt of some sort. He will face Primetime Robby Walker. Jay tells Robby this is a FIGHT, not a wrestling match. Jay is telling him the rules, like no gouging the eyes like this (then does it to walker) no throat strikes (then does it to Walker) and no blows below the belt (then does that to Walker). Bradley then warms up in the corner, and comes out stalking the downed Walker. After some throws, and spinning across Walkers back a few times, Bradley locks in an ankle lock for the submission win. Bradley celebrates by putting on his sponsor’s shirt, and hat, stepping up to a podium, for a press conference. He thanks his sponsors, and Buda, for showing him the enlightened path, then takes questions from the audience. He says he’s never tapped out to Ryan Howe, and never would tap out to Howe. He says he is the real deal! He says he is absolutely in the Nightmare Rumble, and he’s ready! He’s fought Bears, and attack dogs, and you don’t see bites, or scratches! He’s the Supreme Fighting Machine, Jay Bradley!

Here comes Ryan Howe with a question. “How full of cap are you?” Howe says Bradley is delusional and challenges him at the next Saturday Night Special, in a submission match. Bradley challenges him now, and Howe accepts. As Howe gets in the ring, Bradley’s trainer/cut man, Mongo, nails him with the MMA belt, and Bradley locks in a choke hold. Bradley is screaming “go to sleep, tap!!!!” as he holds in the choke. Finally releasing, and celebrating with Mongo, center ring.

Wrestlers have done MMA gimmicks before, but the reason I love Bradley’s is because he’s so far over the top with it. He’s pretty much mocking it, and it’s funny, at least to me. I don’t see why Jay needs something like this, but since he’s got it, he may as well live it up, and he is. I look forward to his MMA antics every week.

We cut to the back with Sharpe once again pleading with Jamin to call their match off, because he is not a wrestler. Jamin reuses, and says that he will see him out there. Sharpe looks very stressed, as Jamin leaves.

After the break, we have an OVW official, sitting down with the Mobile Homers, and Hayes, and Ali, the tag titles on a table between them. Basically, they don’t know what to do. Adam Revolver purposes a Wresting Roulette Match. The winners get the titles, and the man that takes the pin fall, is fired from OVW. Both teams agree.

I like this idea, as I have no idea where it will go. Who will take the pin? Will they really leave? Could it possibly be Ali or Hayes? I think Revolver could have a bright singles career, so I wouldn’t mind seeing things go that way. I’m not crazy about the whole “Mobile Homers’ gimmick at all. This makes this rematch much more interesting than just a straight up match.

Main event time, as Marcus Anthony and Timmy Danger hit the ring. Jamin is out, but has to go back through the curtain and almost drags Chris Sharpe out. Before we get under way, Gilbert Corsey takes a house mic and has an announcement. Chis Sharpe will not have to compete in this match! He cannot complete. Chris is licensed only as a referee, and cannot compete as a wrestler. Gilbert apologizes, but this match has been advertised, and Jamin must face Anthony and Danger in a handicapped match. Wait, Dean Hill now has the house mic, and says Nightmare Danny Davis has overheard all of this, and he will not let this stand. Davis says Jamin gets a fair shake, and this is a singles match, between Jamin, and Anthony. Timmy Danger will be handcuffed to Chris Sharpe, on the outside of the ring. If Danger refuses to cooperate, Anthony forfeits the match.

Anthony almost gets counted out after the bell rings, but gets in the ring reluctantly, at nine. Jamin is a house of fire and just goes all out. Anthony catches him, attempting a flying cross body, and recovers from a botch, and tosses Jamin across the ring, but there’s a ref bump along the way. Anthony takes over with power move, after power move. Sharpe is trying to get to the ref to revive him, but Danger, handcuffed to him, is hugging the ring post, so he can’t. Anthony goes out after Sharpe, and as Jamin gives chase, Danger throws some kind of powder all over Jamin. Jamin is blinded, and Anthony is hammering him outside the ring. Anthony scoops Jamin up, rolls him into the ring, and revives the ref. Sharpe wants to help, but Danger won’t let him. Sharpe finally hammers Danger, but too late, as the ref counts the 1-2-3, and Anthony wins the match.

OVW_Heavyweight_Championship

In all honesty, this match wasn’t that good. By the time all the announcements were done, there was about eight minutes to go for wrestling. Anthony is a beast, but not that great of a wrestler. To be fair, OVW is playing that truth up. Danger covers for a lesser skilled champion, just so he can hold the belt, but Jamin so outclasses him, in every way. I’m hoping Anthony’s title reign is a short one. I think he has a bright future, and Danger helps out anyone he’s associated with, but I don’t think Anthony is ready for the OVW title.

Over all though, this was an excellent lead in show for “Saturday Night Special” on February first. The Nightmare Rumble should be good. Will TPT and Flash wait on the next entrant, or will they go toe to toe? Is Mr. Marvelous the favorite, as the last entrant? Will The Body Guy have a new charge, waiting to spoil that for him? Who was the masked person, that took out Tapa’s knee? Are Bostic and Godderz for real? Is Ray fooled by their charm? Or is she fooling us? Will Bradley proves he’s “legit” and take out Ryan Howe with a submission? Or will he be exposed? Who is getting fired? One of the Homers? Ali? Hayes? Will Jamin blame Chris Sharpe for not doing enough to help him again? Who is going to take that title off Marcus Anthony? How will they do it? How do you over come Danger? All questions I want answered, and I have to watch Saturday Night Special for them to be answered. As such,  #753 was a good episode!
