Indie Matches of the Weekend is simply going to be me yammering about my favorite matches coming up this weekend. Because I’m saying weekend and not week, any event running Monday through Thursday won’t be considered.

ACH, Davey Vega & Mat Fitchet vs. David Starr, Trevor Lee & Eddie Kingston (AAW 7/21/18)

Can’t say I have been fully on board with the WRSTLING story. As in…not entirely sure I “get it”. What’s the end game? You have a collection of truly amazing wrestlers which is a big plus. I just don’t know where you go with that. I guess it doesn’t matter if it can lead to rad trios matches like this. ACH and the Besties are close, long-time, personal friends. At the very least their careers have ties. There could have definitely been something to set this up last show. I know Starr and ACH faced for the title and there could have been a HAPPENING but I didn’t see it and I’m not some investigative reporter. Show me the match and I’ll tell you if I’m amped based on talent. I’m AMPED! Trios matches are the best matches and with six talented folks who can either GO or build something special, you got something worth being on the lookout for.

Zema Ion vs Trey Miguel (AAW 7/21/18)

A match that I don’t need to dive into in a meaningful way. Zema Ion has been one of the best flyers on the indies for years. Ever since Ion started with TNA in 2011 the lad has improved leaps and bounds. His match structure tightened up, he became ridiculously smooth and the way he has embraced lucha characteristics in his work brings a grin to my face. Then you have Trey who is a part of the next generation of flyers on the US indies. He is absolutely crushing it. Every time he is out there you know the sprint is on. He doesn’t let up. Both guys have had stellar sprints with Myron Reed in AAW this year so no doubt together they will do the same.

Rey Fenix vs Rey Horus (DEFY 7/20/18)

I’m a sucker for sprints and if this ain’t a sprint then I don’t even know why the wrestling exists. Two super crisp, inventive, rad dudes who can throw down. I want to see all them moves where they are in the air for a second longer than god intended. I don’t have a lot here. Fenix has been tearing it up and Horus seems to get EASILY his most high profile work in PWG. For most people, PWG gives them more than the average eyeballs but Horus doesn’t work a lot of super prominent places very often which was more the point. He’s good and should be OUT THERE. Get him out there, what are you doing?

Wrecking Ball Legursky vs Jack Swagger (NEW 7/21/18)

Some cowards wouldn’t care about this match but they don’t get the magic of Wrecking Ball Legursky. A complete meatball of a man who squashes the scrawny wrestlers that NEW has put in front of him. Swagger has been less motivated than I would like on this indie run but he seems serviceable. Legursky had a banger against Ryback so I don’t see why he can’t do the same against Swagger. Yeah, should be a nice hoss battle that lives up to that moniker.

G-Raver & Stockade vs. The Hooligans (H20 7/20/18)

This looks like a trash match but in a good way. G-Raver has established himself as one of THE deathmatch wrestlers in the states through CZW and GCW. Definitely prefer his brand of insanity over some of the folks who have taken over the past couple of years. Stockade has been a low-key fave of mine for a little while. Husky jerk who will punch your lights out. Hooligans are chubby flippy hillbillies. That’s their entire gimmick and I haven’t gotten sick of it yet. When called upon they can kick it up a notch and embrace their Moondog-esque roots. They will light you UP! Get lit. Not entirely sure what to expect from this one but H20 comes off like a minor league hardcore promotion. That sounds worse than I mean it. It gives some of these lads that aren’t getting the opportunity to show their wares to come off like bigger deals. This should be a hoot.
