AJ Gray vs. Brian Pillman Jr. vs. Clayton Gainz vs. Kevin Ku

This was a solid match to kick off the show. While not the longest, each man got to shine, with AJ Gray picking up the big win over Clayton Gainz. I highly praised Gainz and Gray the last time I saw them, and they impressed here yet again. Pillman is finally getting more bookings outside of MLW, and he made the most of it here. Kevin Ku was also impressive, and he hit a very nice move onto Gainz on the ring apron, which looked really brutal. Otherwise, I’d love to see a match between Gray and Gainz down the line, as those two would kill it. Good opener, and they got a “Please Come Back” chant, which is always a good sign.

Winner: AJ Gray

Brody King vs. KLD

Very good match, and it was great to see Brody King in Glory Pro. Now that he signed with ROH, I’m not sure if he’ll get to compete here again, but this was a great match to have if it was his one and only. KLD works so well with the other big men, and he’s sort of taken Elgin’s role when he first started the promotion, bringing in a ton of big names and putting them over. Great hoss fight here with Brody picking up the win and also getting a “Please Come Back” chant.

Winner: Brody King

Match Rating: ***1/2

Kobe Durst vs. Tyler Colton

Better than expected, as these two put on a really good back and forth match. They had the crowd involved, and Durst was super impressive as usual. Colton is the current Resurgence Champion (which seems to be dead), but held his own here, and proved that he’ll be able to hang with some of the other big names in the future. Durst isn’t booked on every Glory Pro show, but anytime he’s on the card he always comes out swinging and looking to impress. There was a GREAT near fall down the stretch, but in the end Durst won with his signature Piledriver. Not as good as the previous match, but still a very good match.

Winner: Kobe Durst

Match Rating: ***1/4

Jake Something vs. Paco

Typical Paco match here, as he was forced to fight from the bottom for the majority of the match, but the main story was the crowd starting to turn against Jake Something. I mentioned that a Something heel turn wouldn’t shock me, and that’s exactly what we got here. Something came in and tried to take out Paco before he got to Kingston in January, but that’s not how it ended up. Paco countered a piledriver (I thought it was botched at first, but this was brilliant) and stole the win with a quick three count. Something reluctantly shook his hand post match, but then hit his beautiful Blackhole Slam! AJ Gray came out to make the save, which sets up their match on January 6th. Great stuff.

Winner: Jake Something

Match Rating: ***1/4

Alpha Omega vs. #NNF

Alpha Omega has been fighting to get a spot on the main card, and that’s exactly what they got here against one of the top teams in Glory Pro. Danny Adams and Mike Outlaw made Alpha Omega look like a million bucks, and this was a really good match. Pretty much a tornado tag, but that made it even better than it probably would have been. Alpha Omega has a super bright future ahead of them, and it’s quality outings like this that prove that. #NNF never disappoint, and it’s always great to see them in action, especially when it’s giving new guys like Alpha Omega an opportunity.

Winners: #NNF

Match Rating: ***1/2

Aaron Orion vs. Angel Dorado vs. BMD vs. Savanna Stone vs. Tootie

I was quite impressed with the size of Aaron Orion, and the athletic abilities of Angel Dorado. This started out pretty good, but sadly had a total mess of a closing stretch. Tootie had a pin on BMD, but they botched the pin break up so the referee just stopped the count. Took pretty much everything out of the crowd, but then Tootie got him back up and hit a bicycle kick and a knee, BMD fell down and that was it. Very botchy ending in a short match, but it was all about what happened afterward when Savanna Stone turned on Tootie! Very reminiscent of Something/Paco, except a Savanna Stone heel turn is something I never saw coming.

Winner: Tootie

Match Rating: **1/2

United Glory Championships: Myron Reed and Stephen Wolf (c) vs. Besties in the World

This was a tremendous tag match, filled with drama and great near falls. It had a slow start, but it picked up from there, and never slowed down. The Besties got a ton in, and Wolf was able to be an insane underdog, kicking out of literally everything Fitchett and Vega threw his way. Fitchett channeled his inner Goldberg, which was also quite fun. The ending was sadly a run in, but fit well as #NNF have had it against The Besties for awhile now, and they seemed to win the tittles if Danny Adams didn’t pull the referee out of the ring. Great stuff, forcing me to pull out FOUR STARS!

Winners: No Contest

Match Rating: ****

After the match, Stephen Wolf challenges #NNF and The Besties in the world to a TLC MATCH at Above the Law on January 6th!

Airwolf vs. Warhorse

Solid match, but I feel like it went too long, and it was here to cool down the crowd before the main event. Warhorse was still super over, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for him in 2019. Airwolf has been the rookie of the year for Glory Pro, he still has a lot of work to do, but he’s improved tremendously since his debut. There were too many spots where both guys were down, and I feel like other matches on the card could’ve benefited from a few more minutes rather than this getting it. Sadly, Puma King wasn’t able to make it to this show, and this was a late replacement, probably why it wasn’t the greatest. Warhorse ultimately picked up the win off of not one, but two double stomps to the back.

Winner: Warhorse

Match Rating: ***

Crown of Glory Championship: Curt Stallion (c) vs. DJZ

For whatever reason, the crowd wasn’t really into things and it was quite a shame. Maybe they were burnt out, or there were a lot of new fans who didn’t really know who Curt Stallion was? Either way, this was similar to the United Glory Title match where it started slow, but things picked up and DJZ got a few great near falls in. I’m not the biggest fan of the ref bump, as it felt like a last ditch effort to get the crowd into things. DJZ had Stallion pinned for about an 8 count before the second ref came out but Stallion kicked out. The finish was BEAUTIFUL as Stallion nailed a German Suplex off the top rope, to little to no reaction, but he picked up the win nonetheless. Solid match, but could’ve been better with an invested crowd.

Winner: Curt Stallion

Match Rating: ***1/2

Final Thoughts:

This was Glory Pro’s first LIVE show on Powerbomb, and it was definitely a success. There was only one bad match, but that’s expected when you throw all of the relative newcomers together. Otherwise, there were a lot of really solid matches, with a GREAT Tag Title match that set up an even more amazing match at the next event. It took me far too long to get around to watching this show, but I’m glad I finally did because it was one of the better Glory Pro shows. I’d say it was better than both Unsanctioned and Horsepower due to the consistency and having that one really great match. If the main event had an invested crowd, this could’ve been up there as one of Glory Pro’s best shows of the year.

Final Rating: 7.2/10
