Pro Wrestling Guerrilla’s Battle of Los Angeles has been a big travel location for wrestling fans across the world. This year seems to be no different, as the California based promotion has brought in talent from all across the world. From Joey Janela to Bandido to Shingo Takagi to Ilja Dragunov. With the buzz of BOLA 2018 winding down, I’m here to take a look at another tournament from PWG that should return, that is DDT4.

The Dynamite Duumvirate Tag Team Title Tournament, or DDT4, was first held in 2007. It took place to determine new PWG tag team champions after the titles were vacated by El Generico and Quicksilver. The tournament has been used to determine a number one contender, but in years where the tag team champions have entered, the titles were defended in each round of the tournament.

Throughout the year such teams as the Young Bucks, the Briscoe Brothers, the Kings of Wrestling, the Motor City Machine Guns, and many more have competed in DDT4. The last time the tournament was held was in 2015. Since 2015, there’s been plenty of new tag teams making a big name for themselves on the independent scene. Now more than ever, is the best time for PWG to bring back DDT4. I’m taking a look at 8 teams that would do great if PWG would bring back the tournament.

1) The Rascalz

Formally known as Scarlet and Graves, Zachery Wentz and Dezmond Xavier are the current PWG World Tag Team Champions. The former AAW and CZW tag team champions have been making waves across the world. Since coming to PWG as a tag team, they are undefeated, beating teams like MexaBlood, the Chosen Bros for the titles, and the four time tag team champions the Young Bucks. Putting them in DDT4 would mean they would mix it up with some of the best teams in the world. It would also put the champions at a big disadvantage. Only once have the tag champions walked out with the belts. On two occasions the champions lost their titles in the opening round of the tournament. Can the champions remain undefeated and reigning tag team champions?

2) Ringkampf

Yes, WALTER just signed a contract with WWE but anything is possible in wrestling in the year 2019. The former wXw Tag Team Champions have been making waves around the world in promotions such a wXw and Progress as well as US based promotions like Evolve and PWG. The two have squared off against teams such as the former PWG Tag Team Champions the Chosen Bros (Matt Riddle and Jeff Cobb) and Violence Unlimited (Brody King and Tyler Bateman), as well as Ilja Dragunov and Shingo Takagi in an insane match at Battle of Los Angeles 2018 Night 1. If this is PWG’s last chance to book the former PWG World Champion, let it be in this tournament.

3) The Lucha Brothers

Since coming to PWG in 2016, the former PWG World Tag Team Champions, Fenix and Pentagon el 0M (or whatever he’s called this week), have put on some amazing matches. The two held the championship belts for most of 2017 before losing to the Chosen Bros. They’re also among the very few teams in PWG to defeat the Young Bucks. The current MLW Tag Team Champions can show why they are two of the best luchadors on the planet.

4) MexaBlood

The former Crash and Progress Tag Team Champions, Bandido and Flamita haven’t had many matches in PWG as a tag team. In fact, they’ve only had one, where they lost to the current champions the Rascalz. Even though Bandido and Flamita have only been teaming for under a year, the two have worked great together in Dragon Gate. They recently had an amazing match against the Lucha Brothers at AAW Destination Chicago during All In weekend. This tournament could be their chance to get a big victory over some of the best tag teams in the world today.

5) Calamari Catch Kings

The original incarnation of the Calamari Catch Kings began in 2012 when Chris Brookes began teaming with Jonathan Gresham in the United Kingdom. Brookes later began teaming with Kid Lykos in 2016 and since then they’ve collected gold in Attack!, CZW, Fight Club: Pro and Progress. During the Progress Coast To Coast US Tour, Brookes and Lykos were able to capture the Progress Tag Team Titles for a third time. Unfornately, Kid Lykos suffered an injury the very next night, taking him out of action. The OG CCK member Jonathan Gresham stepped in on the tour to have some of the best tag team matches of the year against British Strong Style, LAX and Sexy Starr. In 2018 the two have recently done shows for RevPro and were in the wXw World Tag Team League. PWG could give the team more exposure to the US fans.

6) Latin American Xchange

The team formerly known as EYFBO made their PWG debut on October 19th in a tag title match against the Rascalz. The New York based tag team have been one of the best tag teams in the world for years. Since becoming the newest reformation of LAX in Impact Wrestling, they’ve been making their mark all across the world. They currently hold the House of Glory, WrestlePro, and Impact Tag Team Championships and are the longest reigning champions for all 3 companies. They’ve had two incredible matches against CCK in Progress, and the possibility of those two teams facing eachother in PWG could be mind blowing.

7) The Besties In The World

The Besties In The World have been teaming together for nearly 8 years and collecting championships in promotions all over the US. But they have yet to step foot inside a PWG ring. The former AAW, Glory Pro and Pro Wrestling Revolver Tag Team Champions would be a great addition to this tournament and would give the team some well deserved exposure.

8) The Beaver Boys

Another team that has teaming for nearly 8 years have been the Beaver Boys. Difference is that these men are no strangers to PWG. They are even former PWG World Tag Team Champions. They competed in the last DDT4 in 2015 and won the titles by defeating the Monster Mafia, before losing the titles to Andrew Everett and Trevor Lee in the finals of the tournament. The two have been calling themselves “the Ace Tag Team of Beyond Wrestling” and have competed against some of the best tag teams in the world. Being in this tournament could solidify them as one of the best tag teams in the world today.
