MLW Fusion 62

We start the show with some great promos to open the show. The fist is brought to us by Salina De La Renta. She welcomes us to the show, produced by her. The card she built for this show was incredibly self serving. She informs us that Low-Ki is her sacrificial lamb for Ricky Martinez. On top of that, tonight Salina gets rid of one of the thorns in her side with a falls count anywhere, loser leaves MLW match featuring Mance Warner and Sami Callihan in the main event.

Which leads us to our next bit, with Sami trying to get into the building but being stopped by a couple of guards. Mance walks up which sets off Sami since both of them need to win tonight. Jimmy Havoc then walks out and tells both Mance and Sami that they are not allowed into the building until the main event, on orders from Salina, much to the chagrin of both men. They leave and Jimmy has one of the funniest quotes in the show with, “Bye guys! Life sucks! Then you get the sweet release of death!” Havoc’s delivery of this line with a smile and a childlike exuberance make this that much better.

Match #1: Flamita defeats Rey Horus

Do you like Lucha Libre action? Good. You got it. This match was fast, furious, hard hitting, acrobatic, and delivered on all levels. The match started out as a match of face vs. face, but after a few minutes of match time and Flamita flossing in the ring, the crowd quickly got behind Horus. Once these two really got into the meat of the match, they stepped on the gas pedal and never let up. While they didn’t offer up a whole lot in the way of story or emotion, they more than made up for it in technical ability, grappling, and overall “WOW” factor. The final minutes of this match are truly something to behold, from Rey Horus hitting two, beautiful satallite DDT’s to Flamita’s match winning 450 splash. If you want action and fast pacing, look no further than this match.

Next we get a Contra Unit video showcasing all the damage that they have inflicted for quite sometime. This all leads to great promo from Tom Lawlor, flanked by Marshall and Ross Von Erich. Lawlor goes on to say that though the numbers game is even, the odds are not. Lawlor all but assured that he is not only going to retain his title, but he’s going to put Contra “to sleep at the hands of Filthy Tom.” We shall see on the next episode of Fusion, as we are getting Contra Unit versus Lawlor and the Von Erichs in a six-man tag team match.

Match #2: Low-Ki defeats Ricky Martinez

Salina comes out from the back and welcomes the crowd to her show but quickly turns on the crowd by calling them “German sausage eating cheese heads” and introduces the Ricky Martinez, claiming that we were in for a public execution. And boy we were. This match was slow, methodical, and hard hitting. Low-Ki and Martinez show that they don’t need titles to carry a story or a match. There really isn’t a whole lot to say about this match other than that. Low-Ki has made a fast transition from heel to anti-hero quite well and Martinez is just as good of a heel as he’s been for a long time. Even though Low-Ki has been aligned with Salina and Martinez for some time, the crowd was fully behind Low-Ki and cheering him on the entire time. Salina and Martinez take shots at the crowd constantly but their enthusiasm is quickly soured when Low-Ki picks up the win by knockout with a strong elbow strike.

We get treated to another Mance Warner and Sami Callihan promo, this time, in front of a horse trailer. Sami goes to say a few words but is quickly interrupted by Mance asking what the trailer is for. Sami says he brought a horse for Mance to “ride off into the sunset.” After some arguing, we are treated to a disgusting Mid-West Megapowers spit shake.

The camera cuts to backstage to Ricky Martinez and Salina and oh boy, Salina is not happy. Her Sicario lost and we are given one of the best ass chewings I’ve seen in a long time. Ricky tries to speak up in his defense but his words are cut short by Salina as she continues to berate Ricky into submission before leaving to run the rest of the show.

Dynasty, looking douchey in their tailored suits and just generally being dicks, talk about Holliday and his upcoming match with Teddy Hart. Holliday comments on Hart’s ring gear and the group (along with all of us at home) have a good laugh about the fact that it’s homemade and sparkly. Their delivery is absolutely perfect and makes you hate them even more. But here we see the seed of discontent being sown with Hammerstone telling Holliday and MJF that they don’t need anymore gold, since he has it already. Holliday and MJF take a bit of an affront to this and recoil a bit before Hammerstone takes back what he said and allays their feelings. Could this bee the beginning of the end for Dynasty? Is there too much ego for the group as a whole?

Match #3: Mance Warner defeats Sami Callihan

This match, well… It was a match. Both of these men have done far better in other promotions. But that’s not what this match will be remembered for. Mance Warner comes out from the curtain with a trashcan and enters the ring with it. Sami on the other hand, comes out with a bottle of water, yelling at Cornette. Sami then spits on him and gives him the universal symbol for “you’re number one!” Say what you want about what happened and why, that it neither here nor there. The match didn’t deliver on the hype it built for itself. Sami and Mance brawled outside the ring. They brawled in the crowd. They did some neat stuff with doors, chairs, dollar bills and staple guns. Overall, this match fell flat and the finish felt rushed. After a few big spots and some brutal shots, Mancer picks up the win with a running knee strike through a door.

Final Thoughts

This was a fairly good show with some good matches and some good promos. What keeps this show from being better is the main event that, to me, fell flat. That being said, I can’t wait to see the fallout from everything tonight and we have a lot to look forward to next week! Teddy Hart will be taking on Richard Holliday, and Tom Lawlor and the Von Erichs will be taking on Contra Unit. Let’s hope next week takes things up a notch.

Not a whole lot to say. I can usually be found playing some sort of video or board game, watching a movie, reading a book, stuffing my face with pizza and various fast foods, or more importantly, watching wrestling. I regularly attend shows all over New England, mostly in Maine. Limitless feels like a second home to me.
