Tonight’s Fusion Alpha was headlined by Davey Richards vs. Tom Lawlor in an opening round match of the 2021 Opera Cup Tournament. Strong Points of the Show
- The “David vs. Goliath” dynamic of Moriarty and Tankman’s match was really fun to watch. Lee did an incredible job of selling Calvin’s offense throughout the match.
- I am loving that Cesar Duran’s history since the end of Lucha Underground is being explored. There seems to be someone, or potentially a group of people, that Duran is “running” from. And I am excited to see who this mystery person/group is as time goes on.
- Richard Holliday and Cesar Duran had an intriguing interaction tonight. Seeing Duran hold Holliday partly responsible for Alicia Atout’s expose makes me think that the storyline between Holliday and Atout is far from over.
Weak Points of the Show
- In the beginning of the broadcast, there was a tease that nZo (formerly known as Enzo Amore in WWE) might join MLW. The thought of nZo being an active wrestler in MLW does not excite me. However, I could see nZo being a good mouthpiece/manager for a younger wrestler.
- Seeing Alex Hammerstone’s relinquish the National Openweight Championship was disappointing. Especially after Hammerstone had been champion for so long. I feel like it would have been more impactful for Hammerstone to drop the title in a hard fought match.
Other Highlights/Important Moments
- Joe Dombrowski made his commentary debut alongside Rich Bochinni. No word on where Saint Laurent was.
- After Calvin Tankman defeated Lee Moriarty, American Top Team (King Mo and Alex Kane) offered Tankman a spot on their team. Calvin told Mo and Kane that he would think about their offer.
- A War Chamber match was announced for November 6th. The bout will feature CONTRA vs. Alex Hammerstone, Richard Holliday, E.J. Nduka, and one other participant.
- It was announced that Will Ospreay will make his debut for MLW this December in New York.
- At the end of the broadcast, 5150 attacked Injustice in a parking lot.
