MLW Fusion Azteca episode #2 featured two championship matches. 5150 defended the MLW Tag Team Championship against Black Destiny and Skalibur. Watch the latest episode in the MLW Fusion Azteca mini-series below:

Strong Points of the Show

  • Similar to last week, I appreciate how this week’s program was in a different arena/location.
  • I’m glad that the storyline surrounding IWA being purchased by Cesar Duran was continued on tonight’s broadcast. Even though the purchase has not been brought up for a while, I am still happy that the storyline was not forgotten altogether.
  • Karlee Perez and Mads Kruger’s segment was really well done. More so, I appreciate how Perez and Duran manipulated Kruger to do their bidding and fight Bestia next week.
  • Jacob Fatu’s return for next week makes me very excited. I cannot wait to see how the continuation of the CONTRA storyline plays out.
  • Seeing Salina and Killshot’s names taped on the door was a small yet awesome detail that was added to the closing segment.

Weak Points of the Show

  • Savio Vega’s frustration over Alex Hammerstone going missing seemed a bit forced. I know they teamed together in the War Chamber. However, based on Savio’s past issues with The Dynasty, it was hard to buy Vega’s anger.
  • nZo’s suspense was a little ridiculous. For all the reasons to be suspended, refusing to apologize for an attack seems like a weak reason for nZo to be suspended.
  • Thumbtacks in wrestling make me nervous. In saying that I can fully acknowledge that I am too much of a prude for my own good. Especially since the thumbtacks appeared during a hardcore match.

Other Highlights

  • Cesar Duran opened the show and criticized his “believers” for being fussy. After criticizing his believers, Duran addressed last week’s program and the disappearance of Alex Hammerstone. Cesar said that everyone had to respect his power, even the World Heavyweight Champion.
  • After the Tag Team Championship match, Aerostar and Drago came out and brawled with 5150. Later on, Rivera and Boogie were notified by one of Duran’s men that they would be defending their titles against Aerostar and Drago next week. Then, towards the end of the National Openweight Championship match, 5150 interfered and cost Aerostar the match.
  • nZo told Emilio Sparks that he attacked KC Navarro to teach him a lesson: never turn your back on anyone.
  • The announcers discussed Davey Richards’ new multi-year contract. An interview with Richards was scheduled for the show. However, prior to the main event, Richards was shown backstage laid out. The announcers speculated that Richards’ Opera Cup was stolen from him.
  • Richard Holliday searched for Alex Hammerstone. At one point, Holliday came to a door that was guarded by Duran’s henchmen. Richard attempted to go in, but he was stopped by Alicia Atout. Following the main event, Holliday (disguised as one of Duran’s henchmen) found Hammerstone and freed him from the room he was locked in.
  • Another vignette for EJ Nduka aired tonight.
  • Nduka confronted Cesar Duran to find out where Alex Hammerstone was. Rather than acknowledge Nduka’s concerns, Duran complimented Nduka’s leadership abilities. Duran then asked to speak with Nduka privately.
  • A second vignette aired promoting Bestia 666’s MLW return.
  • Gnarls Garvin claimed that he would find success in MLW by doing things his own way.

Match Results

  • MLW World Tag Team Championship Match: 5150 (with Konnan) defeated Skalibur and Black Destiny via pinfall to retain the MLW Tag Team Championship.
  • MLW National Openweight Championship Match: Alex Kane (with Mr. Thomas) defeated Aerostar via submission to retain the MLW National Openweight Championship.
  • Hardcore Match: Pagano defeated Savio Vega via pinfall.
