Opening Contest: Midnight Heat vs. Flamin’ Aces vs. Suavecitos

Midnight Heat baby. Pretty neat touch as the cameras show the teams behind the curtain before they walk out. The teams don’t wait for the bell as it’s a brawl early, with the Acs standing tall. Perez and Gee go first, with Perez getting a hurricanrana. Ricky Gibson replaces Gee but gets a basement dropkick from the Aces. Gibson gets taken down with a headscissors. Suavecitos double-team Perez and Rose takes over control. Sunset flip in by Gee gets two.

The Heat work their way back in and continue to the beatdown of Perez while Spencer Scott loses his mind at the illegal double teaming. Assisted dominator/elbowdrop combo gets two for Pearl. Slingshot backbreaker by Gibson gets two when the Suavecitos break up the pin. Perez struggles for the tag, but the Heat can’t foil those plans and Spencer Scott finally is able to tag in. Flatliner and a TKO on the Suavecitos get two for Scott. Scott counters a somersault senton attempt with a sit-out powerbomb which looked awesome. O’Connor Roll by Scott is reversed by the Suavecitos, and a hold of the tights steals the win for Los Suavecitos. The Heat were robbed darnit! Solid opener for sure.  ***

Post-match the Suavecitos cut a backstage promo on their victory.

The Midnight Heat are frustrated, but are coming for Dirty Breeze at Roseland 8.

Match Two: Gin Sevani vs. Amira

Amira has the crowd rocking as usual. Collar and elbow tie-up which ends in a shoving match. Amira takes Sevani down and hits a shoulderblock. Series of armdrags by Amira followed by corner charges and a cannonball. Sevani scoots to the outside and drags Amira into the post. Running clothesline from Sevani only gets one. Sevani gets her own corner charge and a penalty kick for two. Amira escapes a suplex and tries a German suplex, but can’t get it. Sevani gets her own suplex for two. They slug it out and Amira gets the better of that. Three Amigos German suplexes hit for Amira. Bicycle kick from Sevani turns the tide briefly, but Amira gets a high kick and a top-rope crossbody. Misery Business slam gets the win for Amira. A fine match to keep the momentum for Amira going.  **

Amira talks backstage about her win and upcoming match against Trish Adora at Roseland 8.

Match Three: Gregory Sharpe vs. Daniel Makabe

Sharpe put up a good fight in a losing effort against Jordan Cruz at the previous A Moment of Violence show. Makabe extends the hand but Sharpe won’t shake it. I learned a long time ago not to shake anyone’s hand before a match thanks to Jaques Rougeau.

Sharpe gets the early advantage with some brief submission holds. Makabe eventually uses his technical prowess to get control, sending Sharpe escaping to the outside. Back in, Makabe stacks him up for a two count. Sharpe has had enough of the technical wrestling and starts throwing haymakers instead. Running knees and a basement dropkick for two as the pace picks up.

Crossface applied by Sharpe but Makabe reverses his way out of that and hits armbreakers on both arms of Sharpe. Heatbutt by Makabe and a rear naked choke, which eventually winds up in an octopus stretch. Sharpe escapes and gets a clothesline and high-angle German suplex for two. Makabe counters a kneestrke with a flapjack and gets an STF. Sharpe fights out and gets a few rolling pin attempts all for two counts. Forearm exchange and both men are down. They stagger up and Sharpe gets a kneestrike and a Sliced Bread #2 for two. Makabe fights up, counters a German suplex attempt and gets the Makabe Lock for the tapout win. Pretty smooth effort by both guys.  **¾.

Makabe talks his match with ZSJ at Roseland 8.

Match Four: Elliot Tyler vs. Lazarus vs. Adrian Quest vs. Kris Brady

Tyler’s first match in North America in 4 years. Brady and Quest clear the ring to get things started. Brady knocks Quest outside and Tyler comes in with a Saito suplex. Hurricanrana and corkscrew crossbody by Quest. Lazarus joins in now with a boot to the face of Quest and a corner dropkick. Brady breaks that up with a springboard crossbody on Lazarus. Tyler manages to take out all three men and applies a single-leg crab to Brady. Quest comes in to bust that up however. Tyler gets a back suplex on Quest but gets cut off by Quest and Lazarus. Tyler reverses a German suplex attempt and gets a double on Lazarus and Quest.

Brady takes Tyler out with an enzuigiri and follows with a tope con hilo. Quest with a tope suicida of his own. Lazarus takes all three men out with a top-rope elbowdrop to the floor. Lazarus tries a tombstone but can’t get it on Quest. Barbie Crusher from Tyler on Quest. Brady takes out Tyler and Lazarus and gets a moonsault on Tyler. Fisherman Buster from Brady on Lazarus. Moonsault misses this time and Quest takes Brady out with a tornado DDT. Quest with a spinning kick to Lazarus followed by a 450 splash for the win. A clean sweep for the Suavecitos on the night.  **½.

Match Five: Last Man Standing Match – Jordan Cruz vs Jaiden

Cruz walks out with wire cutters and cuts the turnbuckle pad off to really set the tone. Jaiden sneaks through the crowd and gets a missile dropkick to get the match off to a hot start. Cruz cuts off the flurry with a kneestrike. Jaiden uses his quickness to hit a flying forearm and lope suicida to the floor. They slug it out on the floor and Cruz gets sent into the post.

Jaiden grabs a chair and heads back in, but Cruz gets another kneestrike to block. To the corner goes Jaiden, but Cruz yanks his leg out from under him sending him neck first into the exposed turnbuckle. Big forearm from Cruz gets a 5 count. Steel chair to the throat of Jaiden gets a 6 count. Garbage cans are the next weapon of choice as Cruz destroys one over Jaiden’s back. Cruz brings a ladder in, stuffs Jaiden in a trash can and then sandwiches him in between the ladder repeatedly. Cruz stops the count at 6 and Jaiden is busted open as he continues to get beaten down.

Powerbomb attempt is countered with a trash can lid shot by Jaiden. Code Red from Jaiden as he starts to mount a comeback now. Lowpe suicida is caught this time, and Cruz gets a brainbuster onto the apron. Jaiden gets up at 7, but gets caught up in the rope and repeatedly eats kneestrikes. Styles Clash (!) from Cruz but Jaiden gets up at 7. Tombstone hits, and Cruz looks for another in an impressive show of strength, but Jaiden counters out. Dropkick with a chair into the face of Cruz. Jaiden with repeated chairshots to the back of Cruz. Cruz gets a low blow but Jaiden manages to send Cruz into the exposed turnbuckle, busting him open.

Jaiden now gets a wood door from under the ring and sets it across two chairs on the floor. With time to recover, Cruz dives over the top with Air Sparta onto Jaiden and through the door. Back in, the ladder is set up and they climb to the top where Cruz wants a superplex but can’t get it. Instead, Jaiden gets a powerbomb off the ladder. Cruz makes it up at 9 but gets DDT’d onto a chair. Another door makes its way into the ring now and gets set across two chair. Jaiden can’t lift Cruz however, and Cruz gets a superplex and No More Sorrow onto a trashcan. Jaiden up at 9, so Cruz tries a burning hammer onto the door but Jaiden counters with a superhero landing and gets a Van Daminator.

To the top, Jaiden gets a tornado DDT on the exposed turnbuckle. Superhero splash onto the chair and both men are down. Jaiden makes it up at the count of 9 to win the war. Tremendous effort from both guys and a satisfying end to the feud with the babyface getting to triumph.  ***¾

Post-match Jaiden shows respect to Jordan Cruz and asks Prestige owner William Quintana for a match with Lio Rush at Roseland 8.

Match #6: Matt Brannigan vs. Drexl

Prestige debut for Brannigan. Test of strength is teased but instead we get a purple nurple spot. This goes on for a few minutes. To the outside, Drexl attacks with an 8×10 he gets from the crowd. Brannigan tries some chops to no effect. Double axehandle does give Brannigan control, followed by a low dropkick for one. Superkick from Brannigan, and he puts on the bathrobe that Drexl wore to the ring. This allows Drexl to get some clotheslines and a running knee strike for two. Brannigan fights back with a jackhammer for two and chokes Drexl with the robe. Gutwrench poperbomb by Brannigan gets two. Drexl uhh gets a claw hold and follows with a piledriver for the win. This was, as they say in Britain, not my cup of tea. DUD

Drexl then challenges Sami Callihan for Roseland 8.

Match #7: Prestige World Championship – Alex Shelley (c) vs. Alan Angels

Angels beat Shelley’s partner Chris Sabin at A Moment of Violence, and this is his fourth shot at Shelly and the World Title, though the first singles match. He jumps Shelley during his entrance and the bell rings before Shelley can even stand up. Angels charges to the corner and hits the post, sending the fight to the floor. They fight through the crowd where Shelley suplexes Angels onto the merch table.

The champion goes to work on the left arm of Angels, sending him into the ringpost multiple times. Angels scoots away inside and lands a lope suicida into the seats on the floor. Dragonscrew legwhip on the left leg of Shelley, as Angels goes to work on the limb. Shelley gets a flash small package for two, and goes back to the left arm of Angels, but Angels fights back with a Cloverleaf as Shelley is noticeably limping.

Rope break saves the champion, as they head to the outside again. This time Angels sends Shelley into the post and grabs a chair. That backfires on him as he gets send shoulder first into it, and Shelley applies the Border City Stretch. The challenger makes the ropes. Drop-toehold into the chair by Shelley. Angels reverses a backslide and gets two with his feet on the ropes. Sliced Bread attempt by Shelley is blocked, and Angels gets a low blow (right in front of the referee). Angels grabs the title belt, but Shelley ducks the belt shot and gets a DDT on the title.

Superkick by the champion, but Angels shoves Shelley into the referee, allowing Angels to get a belt shot. Another referee slides in to count to two. Angel’s Wings hits and we have a NEW champion. ***¼ He did it folks, all on his own too. Crowd is legitimately shocked by that finish. Congrats to Alan Angels, he deserves it.

Main Event: Prestige World Tag Team Championships 2 out of 3 Falls – Sinner & Saint (c) vs. C4

Brawl to start as C4 gets a doubleteam suplex/dropkick for a two count early. Cody Chhun gets a figure four on Icarus, but Williams comes in the break that up. Chhun goes after Williams on the outside and all four men battle on the floor. Chhun remains in control back inside, chopping Icarus down. Blind tag by Williams and a low dropkick gets two. Williams pounds away and tags Icarus for a double-team stomp on Chhun. Double-team flapjack and low dropkicks by the champions. Rosas pulls Icarus to the outside. High knee by Chhun and a Cody Cutter, but Icarus makes a blind tag and gets a cradle for the pin and the first fall to put the champs up 1-0.

Chhun tries to take on both champs himself, but that falters on him as the champs double-team some more while the referee is distracted by Rosas in the corner. Rosas if finally able to get the tag and takes down both champions. Corner clotheslines follow, but once again the champions team up and Williams gets the Professional Lariat for two. Back elbow gets two for Williams. S&S remain in control with frequent tags. Snap suplex by Williams gets two. Rosas fights back on Icarus, ending with a lariat to put both men down. Both men tag with Chhun a house of fire. DDT on Icarus sending him to the outside. Suplex on Williams and tag to Rosas. Assisted sitout powerbomb gets the second fall for C4 as we’re now tied at 1-1.

Hi/Low from C4 but Icarus saves the titles. Icarus baseball slides into Chhun on the outside and S&S take Rosas out. Lighthouse Lariat from Icarus, and German suplex by Williams gets a close two count. Chhun sends Icarus into the post on the outside, leaving him and Williams to square off. They trade big boots, but Icarus low bridges Chhun to the outside. Rosas gets a quick rollup for two as all four men are in. Chhun back in with a double Cody Cutter to the champs.

Another assisted powerbomb by C4, but Alan Angels comes out to pull the referee outside after a two count. The title belt is slid in the ring as Rosas is unsure if he ants to use the title. Chhun does, but swings and misses and falls to the outside. Double low-blow from the champions and a dropkick/Angel’s Wings combo finishes Rosas as the champs retain, 2 falls to 1. I enjoy tag team wrestling, and 2 out of 3 falls matches even more. Sue me. **** The Noise reign supreme and now hold all the gold. Interesting to see where this may lead for C4 with Chhun showing a heelish side in trying to use the title belt.

Final Thoughts: As what was sort of a “road to” type show heading into Roseland 8, I think Alive II delivered in two capacities. One, it furthered and set up matches for Roseland 8. Two, the top 3 matches all delivered, especially with a somewhat shocking title change with Alan Angels taking the World Championship. I’d also like to mention that I appreciated the extra touches of the backstage camerawork showing the wrestlers before their entrance, as well as post-match interviews.
