On July 4, Pro Wrestling Australia aired “King of the Metro” live from The Metro in Sydney, Australia. This event included the last match between North Shore Wrestling and The Dropouts, a match for the PWA Heavyweight Championship, a last chance scramble, and of course the King of the Metro Rumble, which will crown a new number one contender for the PWA Heavyweight Championship. 

The event opens up with North Shore Wrestling (Sam and Jack Osborne) with Will Kiedis against The Dropouts (Tuckman and Jessica Troy) with Scott Green. NSW does not get a pleasant welcome from the Aussie crowd, and by contrast Tuckman and Jessica Troy, joined by Scott Green come out to one of the most ruckus entrances you will see in wrestling. This is the last match of a very long lasting rivalry. The energy in the crowd for this match is as high as you will see for any match, as the PWA crowd hates the “North Shore Wankers” almost as much as they love The Dropouts.

Jessica Troy shows why she is considered by some as the best wrestler in Australia, and the only way that NSW can combat her is by bending the rules and taking advantage of the number game. Once Tuckman comes in the ring, the crowd explodes to a seismic level again. Jess and Tuckman are two of the best wrestlers in Australia, but the Osbornes show that the are the more cohesive team. The Dropouts look like they are going to get the victory, but Will Kiedis pulls the ref out of the ring. NSW hits their double team finisher on Tuckman, but Tuckman kicks out to everyone’s shock. Jess hits a spear, then a dive on the outside, which lets Tuckman hit a springboard cutter for the win. This was a great opening match and the crowd was into every second of it.

Up next is a scramble match between The Anomaly, Jesse Lambert, Velkan, Hari Singh, Randy Chambers and Mick Moretti. The winner of this match will be in the King of the Metro Rumble. This match is non-stop action in and out of the ring. Moretti, who was the surprise entrant gets the win and puts a whole new feel and possible favorite in the rumble.

The big matches continue, as Big Fudge defends the PWA Heavyweight Championship against Jack Bonza. Bonza gets the big match entrance with fire dancers and is joined by EC Brownie. Fudge has a completely different feel, as he comes out with a group of dancers carrying cardboard butts. Bonza feels like Fudge is a joke and is a disgrace to the title. Bonza is able to dominate Fudge with his size as Bonza is a very unique and creative wrestler for his size. Fudge fires up and hits a dive on Brownie, then a butt punch on Bonza. Fudge goes for a choke slam, but Bonza grabs Ref Rachel and Brownie hits a spear on Fudge. However, Fudge will not stay down.

Bonza spits in Fudge’s face and Fudge explodes with a flurry of punches. Bonza goes for an ankle lock, but Fudge hits a choke slam for a near fall. Bonza hits a powerbomb off the apron onto some chairs. Fudge is able to withstand some more powerful offense from Bonza before hitting two choke slams for the win. RANGA attack Fudge after the match and Kiedis cashes in his Golden Esky for the title shot and hits a spear, but Fudge kicks out. Kiedis follows it up with a running kick to a downed Fudge in the head and becomes the new PWA Heavyweight Champion. North Shore Wrestling now has the tag team titles and the heavyweight title. I’m sure they will never shut up about this.

The King of the Metro Rumble is up next. Shay Kassidy is number 1 and comes out to a choreographed dance to “Hit me Baby One More Time” with Barnaby and two back up dancers. Shay will open the rumble against half of The Velocities, Paris De Silva, who apparently has a vendetta against Shay’s stuffed bear, Barnaby. Paris threw Barnaby to the entrance which fired up Shay. Entrant 3 is Billy Preston, who is revived by sugar, but quickly eliminated. Entrant 4 is the returning Cherry Stephens with Barnaby. Cherry and Shay team up on Paris, but after they start fighting each other, Paris eliminates Cherry. Entrant 5 is Nikki Van Blair, who comes out to a huge ovation, but is pretty quickly eliminated by Paris. Entrant 6 is Ty Thayer, representing the Third Eye. Entrant 7 is Aaron Jake who gives Paris a one-handed power bomb. Entrant 8 is El Phoenesion. Entrant 9 is Jagerbomb who eliminates Aaron Jake and Ty Thayer. Jagerbomb has Jager merch and Barnaby in his bag. Paris throws Barnaby again, which infuriates Shay and she eliminates Paris.

Entrant 10, Lachy Mcintire enters the match and eliminates Jagerbomb after kicking him in the groin.  Lachy is pretty much Australia’s Jake Paul. Very annoying, very hated. Entrant 11 is Mel Averillo, who is 6’3 and could be the next female star to come out of Australia. Entrant 12 is Marley Paleti, who saves his tag team partner El Phoenician from Mel, then they hit a double team move on Mel, eliminate her and dance with Shay. Lachy eliminates Shay by jumping her from behind as she is dancing. Entrant 13 is Lachy’s tag team partner, Carter Deams. Entrant 14 is Kai Drake, who could be a favorite in this rumble. Entrant 15 is Micheal Spencer. Spencer and Drake, who are part of MK Plus Ultra, eliminate Lachy. Entrant 16 is MJ Eagles, who is Madison Eagles daughter and is making her pro wrestling debut. She was working with MK Ultra, but Spencer eliminated her. Entrant 17 is Cosmo Cooper, completing the trio of MK Plus Ultra. Entrant 18 is Jude London who immediately eliminates Michael Spencer. Entrant 19 is Tony Sin.

Spencer comes back in the ring and attacks his MK Plus Ultra parters, Cosmo Cooper and Kai Drake with a chair. This lets Tony Sin eliminate Cosmo and Kai. Entrant 20 is BENJAMIN (formerly Ben Braxton). Entrant 21 is Jimmy Zero who is making his PWA debut and immediately hits a springboard destroyer and eliminates Carter Deams but is eliminated by Jude London, with a poison rana on the apron. Entrant 22 is Mick Moretti who has mind control over BENJAMIN and they eliminate the remaining entrants. Entrant 23 is Rita Stone, who was Ben Braxton’s former tag team partner, before Moretti took control of him. Rita tries to wake him out of the trance, but it does not work and she is eliminated. Entrant 24 is Ricky South, making his return to PWA. Entrant 25 is Edward Dusk. Entrant 26 is Robbie Eagles, who is back from Japan and has eliminated BENJAMIN. Entrant 27 is Allie Katch. Entrant 28 is James Hartness. Entrant 29 is Luke Watts. Ricky South eliminates Moretti.

Entrant 30 is EC Brownie, who is the largest and freshest person in the rumble. Brownie eliminates Allie Katch, then Hartness, and Watts. The final 4 is Dusk, Brownie, South and Robbie Eagles. Brownie eliminates Dusk. Eagles and South eliminate Brownie and are the final two remaining. Eagles goes to jump from the apron to the ring, but South pushes him off to the outside of the ring and Ricky South is the King of the Metro.

I really enjoyed this rumble, as there were a lot of things going on, which is not always the case with rumbles. Shay is always incredibly entertaining from her dance to her wrestling and her quest to save Barnaby. We saw the destruction of MK Plus Ultra, the debut of MJ Eagles and Jimmy Zero, and the return of Cherry Stephens and Ricky South. At the end of the day, we look to be having a title match between Will Kiedis and Ricky South, which is definitely not something anyone would have predicted at the beginning of this event.
