Enjoy Wrestling Is For Everyone: A Brief Look At Five Years Of Enjoy

Enjoy Wrestling, which runs out of Pittsburgh, has announced that they will be closing the promotion after the next three shows this summer. Enjoy has run for approximately five years mostly out of Mr. Smalls Theatre. Most of their shows are available on YouTube and include wrestlers like Sonny Kiss, Speedball Mike Bailey, Effy, Billy Dixon, Nick Gage, Jacob Fatu, and many more.

Enjoy Wrestling started in 2021 and had their first couple shows with a limited crowd due to the pandemic. Their first full capacity show was in November of 2021 and it was called “Night Moves.” This show alone featured three match of the year contenders, a technical masterpiece between Lee Moriarty and Darius Lockhart, the insane match between Ziggy Hiam and Edith Surreal and the brutal championship match between MV Young and Max The Impaler. The show set the tone for the shows that Enjoy had to come, with a ruckus crowd and a diverse lineup of wrestlers.

Enjoy’s Champions were diverse in personality and wrestling style as well. The first champion, MV Young, is a hometown bruiser. He represented the Pittsburghers that liked violence and beer. The next champion was Edith Surreal, who is a literal piece of art work. Edith was adored by the Enjoy crowd, and sometimes even greeted with flowers. She won her matches with grace and technique. When Edith decided to step away from wrestling Sonny Kiss and Billy Dixon stepped up. Billy claimed that they were co-champions, but Sonny Kiss might not have felt the same way.

Billy and Sonny’s relationship fell apart as their wedding did not go as planned and turned into a title match between Dark Sheik and Sonny. At the next show Sonny’s title reign ended against Mikey Montgomery.

Mikey Montgomery has been the underdog story for the promotion since debuting in Enjoy. He had always been a fan favorite and conquered the odds. That is until he came up against Darius Carter and the Best Business Bureau. The numbers were just too much for Mikey and Darius won the title.

Mikey will try to regain his title at Enjoy’s final show at their home, Mr. Smalls Theatre, on September 5. Also, at Enjoy’s 5 year anniversary show, TME will attempt to be the final Enjoy Tag Team Champions, just like they were the final Blackcraft Tag Team Champions, but they will have to get through former AEW stars, The Butcher and The Blade. Also at this event will be a hoss fight between MV Young and Schaff, Lee Moriarty against the legend Amazing Red, and Dani Mo against Dark Sheik.

Before that event, Enjoy will be part of the Hilltop County Fair at 880’s home The Warehouse on 8/30. This show looks to have some really fun matches as Journey Burke takes on MJ Santana, MV Young faces Troy Parker, there will be a triple threat between Shimbashi, Austin Blayze and Andrew Palace (that I am REALLY looking forward to) and a 4 way tag team, human demolition derby between TME, The 4th Line, Juni Underwood & Flyin Ryan O’Neill, and Blizzy Blake & Kristian Robinson. This show is always a fun time. It’s being hosted by Bottlerocket Bar and also includes a dog show, live music, bingo with Elvis and Dolly impersonators, and more.

The final Enjoy event will be Tacomania on 10/4, which is always a big event and has lots of tacos and margaritas to choose from.

Enjoy was a promotion unlike anything else that existed in the Pittsburgh area. The fans that came to these shows were there for an event and to have fun. A lot of them had never been to independent wrestling shows before, let alone wrestling shows in general. They gave people the courage to be themselves at these shows, as the fans knew that they would not be judged. This was the promotion that felt safe to be yourself, when a lot of times you didn’t, especially at pro wrestling shows. Enjoy will be missed a lot. If you can get to the Pittsburgh area for any of these last 3 shows, that you will. They will all be very unique and have a party feel, you can be yourself, eat some food, scream at some wrestlers and just have fun, because that is what Enjoy was about.
