In PWPonderings’ latest exclusive interview, Shean Christopher (@SheanChrist) sits down with Scott Mitchell (@scott44mitchell) to discuss his House Of Flies match in the main event of Night 1 of the 13th Anniversary of TWE, his rivalry with Jamesen Shook, his match with Hunter Drake, Ravenna Vein, seeing Ravenna win the the Women’s Future Showcase Tournament, taking part in the Atomic Warfare match in New South Pro, and so much more. Watch the video in its entirety down below.
Let’s jump right into it. On Friday night, August 28th, at TWE Chattanooga, you will be inviting Jamesen Shook into your House of Flies for the main event of Night 1 of the 13th anniversary of TWE. What is your mindset heading into this one?
“So, leading into this, Jamesen Shook, we didn’t just, like, this is not just a guy trying to prove he’s better than another guy thing that’s going on here. It could have been, and it should have been. I would have been fine with that being the case. I liked Jamesen Shook just fine as a person. We got along well. Then he had a change of attitude. That didn’t have to involve me. We didn’t have to tangle. We had a match on the same night that he decided he was going to hang out with the scum of the earth, Dylan Hales now, and come out to shitty music and just be a butthole to everyone. That’s just what he’s going to do now. I thought, literally going into that day, this is exciting; I get to wrestle my friend Jamesen Shook in the main event of a cool TWE show. This is cool. Then it all switched on me. Literally on the day. From what was just a regular match, I pinned him with a crucifix pin; it could not be any more of a wrestling move. For no reason at all, dude jumps me after a title match, drops a concrete block on my neck, knowing that I have neck problems and that if there’s an issue I have it always starts on the left side of my neck, and that’s exactly where he threw it. So now, here we are. We found ourselves in this turmoil where they know I won’t beat Jamesen Shook with a roll-up anymore. We’re past that. He won’t roll me up. I won’t roll him up. I’ll probably find a concrete block and throw it over his head. If I’m going to be completely honest. I’ve been given the free rein to find whatever I want, figure out whatever crazy idea I can come up with, and bring that instrument of torture to the TWE Arena. I’m going to do so. I’m going to leave it ambiguous. It’s going to be instruments of torture. I don’t know if Jamesen Shook is listening in on this call. I don’t know where he’s at. He’s jumped me in many places before, Scott. He could be listening in from anywhere. So, I’m going to just say that when this drops on the VOD, Night 1, I need you to watch all the way to the end. Don’t just watch the beginning. That’s going to be a great match; I’m sure it’s going to be a great opener. I need you to go all the way to the end and watch the shit I’m going to do to Jamesen Shook. I’m going to tear that boy apart. Then, I’ll continue my trajectory straight up as a main eventer of TWE. Guess what, Jamesen, you messed up. You accidentally put me in the main event. I’m not supposed to be in the main event. But here I am. Now, I’m in the main event, and now I’m going to stay here, and I’m going to beat you, and kick you down a little ladder, and I’m going to go beat Hunter Drake or Big Dave, whoever is the champion after that. I’m going to go from Captain TWE Mark, who wanted to be on the TWE show, to TWE Champion, and Jamesen Shook is going to be the guy responsible for that, like a goofball. Sorry, Scott, I get a little fired up about Jamesen Shook. He pisses me off.”
This match is truly going to be a first of its kind. What can fans expect?
“It’s a first of its kind. As Scott said, never been a House of Flies match known to man, and that’s because there’s never been a Lord of the Flies. Technically, there’s a Lord of the Flies in a book somewhere, but there’s another Lord of the Flies. There’s a Lord of the Flies book and TV series, but we’re not talking about that. I’m the Lord of the Flies. We’re not talking about the TV series or book. Although I did think about that. I did put some thought into that a little bit; how can I mix the two? So, don’t expect anything from the TV show or book. Expect some of the craziest stuff. I’m thinking sharp stuff. I’m thinking cut-him-up tools. But I’m thinking about putting them in an interesting spot. You know, usually, maybe you’ll find a loose gusset plate. But what if we wrap them around something? What if we take a spool of barbed wire and find something it’s never been put on before and put it on that? Then I tape that together, and I put something down that’s like a trap door, and when you hit that, it smacks them up together. Yeah. That’s where my brain’s at. A little all over the place, Scott. But I’ve been a mad scientist, putting together some crazy stuff. Plenty of trips to Home Depot, Lowes, plenty of places to find some stuff to cut up Jamesen Shook. Expect some gnarly violence. A lot of blood. A lot of cuts. A lot of violence. A lot of violence on Friday, and a lot of instruments and stuff where you’ll be like, ‘hmmmm, never thought about that before.”
Why did you choose to kind of end things with Jamesen Shook this way?
“So, I did think about a few different stipulations because I went to see J. Lawler, the matchmaker at TWE, with some of my grievances. I didn’t ask for anything. I just said, here’s what’s going on; you’ve seen what’s going on, and I’d like to have some sort of contest with Jamesen Shook. He said, ‘Time and place. You tell me how you want to do it.’ So, I went and cooked for a couple of days. Thought maybe Last Man Standing; that’s pretty good. Texas Deathstyle Last Man Standing would be cool, maybe. Then, I was like, well, he’ll know. He’ll know. He’s seen those before. Texas Deathstyle exists; Last Man Standing matches exist. Go study the tape on them, and you can watch plenty of them. You can figure out little tricks, and little whatever’s, to figure out how to weasel your way on your feet or out of a situation. Maybe put him in a cage. Well, guess what? They got long bars and wide spaces on the TWE cage. My boy Dylan Hales could stick something in pretty quickly. Maybe locked in the cage. But how locked in the cage is he really locked in the cage if Dylan Hales is there and he can sneak in his stupid backpack and Jamesen can whack me over the head with it? So, as I said, no tape study allowed, Jamesen. I thought, I’m going to come up with something that’s never been seen before. Not only are we going to be the main event of TWE’s anniversary show, but we have to do it big. We have to do something awesome, but not only that, Jamesen Shook is going to have no idea what he’s walking into until he walks into it on Friday. Until the whole show is concluded, until his stupid Dirty Laundry music hits and he struts his ass out that curtain. It’s only then will he have the chance to figure out how the hell he is going to get himself out of this. That’s the theory, Scott. Make sure Jamesen Shook has no way to find a trick and no way to find a way out because it’s never been done before.”
Things really exploded with you and Jamesen Shook recently at a TWE show when he dropped a cinder block on your head. Watching this back, what happened there? What were your feelings?
“It honestly came as a hundred percent surprise. All I’ve ever done to this guy was pin him in a wrestling match. I thought our issues began and ended in an eight and a half minute wrestling match that we had where I rolled him up at the end. I thought we were done. It came as a complete shocker to me when, after I wrestled Hunter Drake for however long I wrestled him, he threw every single shenanigan at me that he could find, and he finally pulled one over on me. Then, I’m sitting in the TWE Arena, and for the first time, I feel like I belong in the TWE Arena. The people are starting to accept me. I’m feeling it for the first time. Maybe I have what it takes to be here in spots like this. Before I could even get all those thoughts into my brain, Jamesen Shook is kicking my ass. I don’t know what’s going on. Then, he puts a chair over my head, and I’m thinking, ‘Oh my God, dude, what’s going on? I can barely get up right now.’ I feel a weight on it. Dude’s putting his foot on the chair and stepping on my head. But I hear him walking around me. The weight doesn’t leave, so that’s confusing to me too, because I’m like, ‘How is his foot on the back of my neck?’ Also, he’s walking around the ring, so what’s going on right now? The next thing I know, all I see is the remains of a cinder block in front of my face. I don’t feel my limbs anymore. As I said before, Jamesen knows I have a bad neck. He’s watched me wrestle. If you watch me wrestle for more than five minutes, you’ll know that I have a bad neck. I have a tendency to get thrown on my neck a lot. Recently, I took a blow to my neck, and it messed me up. For a couple of weeks, I couldn’t feel a lot of stuff going on in my shoulders and my arms, and I was losing feeling. I talked to Jamesen about this on a car ride to a show. Before any of this happened. That felt a little more personal. You could have thrown it on my foot, man; you could have wrapped the chair around my leg and stomped on it and really sent me a message and made me hobble for a couple of days. But he tried to literally end my career. He already knows how close I was to saying, what if I call it quits because I don’t want to further damage my neck. But I love wrestling, and don’t want to give it up. When I powered through those thoughts, and I’m in the position I’m in, in the middle of the TWE ring where I want to be, and the people are giving me my flowers, it’s at that moment. It’s at that moment where I’m finally like, ‘Maybe I do need to keep on keeping on.’ That’s when Jamesen Shook tries to take it all away from me. So, it’s really got me messed up. It’s not just a normal, like, I’m angry at the guy. This is a guy who tried to take advantage of a very personal situation I have going on. I guess he just thought, I can get this guy out of wrestling forever, or living, or walking. He didn’t give a shit about what happened to me. That’s what I get watching it back. He just threw the thing at me with ill intent. He didn’t care if it killed me. That’s the attitude I’m going to go into this match on Friday with. I don’t give a shit about Jamesen Shook. I’m going to throw something as hard as I can, because I don’t care if it kills him. That’s the same grace. The same kindness I was shown. I’m going to bestow that right back at Jamesen Shook. I came to him at a vulnerable time, and dude took advantage of that and tried to end my career. He messed up. It didn’t end my career. All it really did was piss me off and hurt my neck. It did jack my neck up for a couple of weeks, but I’m alright now. I’m alright enough to come collect the ass-whooping that is owed to me. So, Jamesen Shook, good luck.”
You recently faced off with Hunter Drake for the TWE Undisputed Championship. What was it like to challenge for this title and work with Hunter?
“It was pretty insane, actually. I made a post regarding it. What a backwards ass world I’m in where I’m going into a match with Hunter Drake as the underdog. The scenario is really weird to be the underdog against Hunter Drake. It’s also a pretty insane way that the world, careers, and life have shaken out. Hunter Drake, way back in the day, long, long time ago, before time itself even existed. It was training in a younger man’s, Brandon Williams’s, backyard. I used to go up there; I didn’t even train. I’d help on occasions with some training by Hunter Drake and Tyler Franks, once known as Thunder Tiger Security, now known as Talladega Knights. Now known as two of the coolest guys ever. That’s why I won’t attach myself to their names and be like, ‘I trained them, by the way.’ But I did, very early in their career, help them along with as much as I knew at the time; I didn’t know a whole lot. It’s really cool to do things on my way back up. It’s been, you know, I’ve had a whatever wrestling career. Taking some breaks sometimes, and sometimes I go way too long without doing cool stuff. I’ve had a lot of stop-and-start with my wrestling career. To have the moment where, on my way back up, with a wave of momentum, Hunter Drake is someone I’ve known since the very beginning when he was a wee-boy, a wee-lad. To be able to have a cool moment like that with him was cool. Of course, I wish he was less of a jackass and more cool about it. We got to have a cool wrestling match. That was awesome. We were doing Spanish flys to each other. Then, he kicked me below my belt. That was not cool. Then he hit me in the face with a chain; that was even less cool. So many not cool things happened. But, again, being in the scenario, it was cool to be in the scenario; with anyone, it would have been cool. But being there with Hunter felt a little more cathartic because of how everything has shaken out. I’m happy to be able to share the ring with him at this point in our career. I feel way more confident in what I can do, and I’m sure he’s way more confident in what he can do, since it’s been years and years since we’ve wrestled each other. But we used to wrestle each other all the time when neither of us knew how wrestling works. But it’s cool to now wrestle each other when both of us know how wrestling works. At least a little bit.”
Back in February, you and Ravenna Vein also took part in the Cupid Cup Tournament, making it to the Finals to battle Corinne Joy & Grayson Pierce. What was this whole tournament like for you?
“It was really cool. Another thing. First of its kind in TWE. Ravenna and I got to be a part of that, which was really cool. I think that’s when they realized, damn, we kind of got a lot of couples here, when they brought me in as more of an active wrestler. I think it’s cool that we kind of helped the whole thing come to fruition. Cool to have been a part of the first Cupid Cup. Also, awesome to make it to the finals. Great to defeat the Wall and Deity. Insane first-round pull. Thanks to Big Dave, we pulled one out by the skin of our teeth, but I’m happy we did. So, we can make it to the finals to see our love interests, arch-rivals Grayson Pierce and Corinne Joy. Jesus Christ, we can’t get away from those two when it comes to being in love and who’s in love more. Unfortunately, they won out most times. Actually, I think almost every time we did a tag team scenario, they beat us. We are looking for our get-back. Please, someone. Book me and Ravenna vs. Corinne Joy and Grayson Pierce, and let us get a win back, please. We need it. We’re desperate now. We’ll work for free. We’ll pay you to be at the show. We’ll do anything. As long as we can beat Corinne Joy and Grayson Pierce, because God, we can’t let them be known as the people who are more in love than we are. That’s just so gross. But, again, it was cool to be a part of the entire experience. I was happy for them that they got to wrestle the Coven of the Goat for the reward of winning the whole thing. I’ll be happy to lay down to you guys and let you go do that. Always great teaming with Ravenna too. She’s awesome. She’s just, like as cool thing that I can’t believe that I’m just looking over at my wife as my tag team partner. That’s just really cool. It was cool to be a part of the first one, and always cool to do anything with my wife, Ravenna Vein. I love her dearly.”
Obviously, you and Ravenna Vein are real-life husband and wife. What has it been like getting to experience this world with her?
“It’s been awesome. That’s been the coolest part of everything. Being able to be right next to her while she has overcome so many personal obstacles and anxieties about wrestling and whether she can do it. She had an injury later in her training, right as she was getting ready to actually do wrestling; she got a super severe injury, so that set her back a lot mentally. To see her overcome that initially was awesome. To see her overcome that is just a huge win. Not just that, but she has continued to overcome that to become one of the most sought-after, cool, complete wrestlers on the entire scene is just so awesome. I’m just lucky to be along for the ride. I’m lucky to be the husband of Ravenna Vein. When we started dating, and she was in my little faction group, she was the manager of my Wasted Generation, an evil cult that I was leading. People referred to her as Shean’s girlfriend a lot. Even Shean’s wife. When she was managing just me. That’s just like, one, she’s so much more than Shean’s wife and Shean’s girlfriend. She is her own person. But now, these days, the role is very much reversed, and I’m just Ravenna’s husband, and I’m more than happy to just be Ravenna’s husband. I am happy to be; yeah, I know her. We hang out every day. That really cool person who does all that wrestling you love? Yeah dude. We hang out and watch TV shows on the couch sometimes. Being next to her, watching her grow, watching her get these cool opportunities- incredible. That’s way more fulfilling for me now, especially at this point in my wrestling career. I’m 10 years into wrestling. I’ve done a ton of things. I don’t know what more I could really want to do. There’s plenty more I want to do; I don’t want to sound like, ‘I’ve done it all, brother.’ That’s certainly not the case. There’s plenty more I want to do. However, it’s way more important to me that Ravenna Vein gets the most out of wrestling. I’ve already had ten years of wrestling. I’ve got my fill out of wrestling, and now, I’m about as good at it as I’ll be good at it. Ravenna Vein is getting better and better every single time she steps in the ring, and she’s already so much better than I am. Let’s just hitch the horse to the wagon. It’s going to be the top star, and that’s Ravenna Vein, because she’s awesome.”
Obviously, Ravenna Vein won the Women’s Action Showcase Tournament earlier this summer. What did it mean for you to see her achieve this goal?
“Really, dude, it was awesome to see her make it all the way to the end and win the Sherry Barnes Fighting Granny Trophy. It’s an awesome trophy to have. Firstly, I think that’s so awesome to be the Fighting Granny Champion. But I know how much it meant to her. She felt like almost the scene- I don’t know, dude. I don’t want to gas her up too much; it’s my wife, and I feel like I’m swayed. But I feel like there was a shift in the scene for women’s wrestling in this area when Ravenna Vein said, ‘F**k it, I’m going to be a full-time wrestler. I’m done playing. I’m going to be a full-time wrestler.’ I feel like something shifted and people’s attention changed. It already did. It already was. I’m not discounting all the women who came before Ravenna Vein and saying she’s like the trailblazer, the greatest women to ever wrestle; I’m not saying that. Not trying to say that. Just saying, there was a bit of a shift in the air, and I think it’s just that Ravenna Vein was bringing up conversations that nobody wanted to bring up. She was bringing up subjects that made people uncomfortable and being like, ‘Hey, why are women not in these scenarios?’ or ‘Hey, why are women not being presented the way they should be presented?’ It’s responding. New South Pro Wrestling has a Women’s Champion for the first time, and it didn’t happen- no offense to New South Pro Wrestling, but it didn’t happen because they wanted it to. It didn’t happen because they thought of the idea. It happened because Ravenna Vein said it should, and someone helped make that shit happen. Shoutout to Ravenna Vein for making a Women’s Championship at New South. Shoutout to them for doing it. They could have just said, ‘F**k you, no women’s championship.’ But they made it happen too. Ravenna Vein made a little shake-up about the ACTION Futures Women’s Championship too; now there’s a Future Women’s Showcase Tournament. For her to be the one to win the first one. I think it’s very important. She has been the one to bring up all these conversations that nobody wants to have and ask these questions that nobody wants to ask, like, ‘Why are women not doing the things that you say we are capable of doing? If you say we’re capable of doing it, give us the opportunity to do it.’ She went out there and did it. I’m so proud of her. She’s awesome. She more than backs up all the shit she talks about. In all these scenarios where she’s like, ‘Why aren’t you giving women a chance?’ Then they give her the chance, and it’s like, Jesus Christ, you’re right; why have we not been doing this already? It’s not only for her. She advocates for so many women and has for years and years and years, before she even wrestled, and continues to do so for so many women, behind the scenes at so many places. So, it’s cool that she gets her flowers. I think it’s well-deserved. To be a part of the moment, I’ll say it’s cool as well. It wasn’t my idea. I’ll say, I was going to wait until she got to the back and give her a loving hug and kiss and stuff. I’m not here to make this shit about me. It’s never about me. I don’t want it to be about me. But Jaden Newman said, ‘Go kiss your damn wife.’ I was like, ‘You know what, dude, I am going to go kiss my damn wife.’ I don’t give a shit that there’s a camera or all of these people here. That’s my wife, and I’m proud of her. I don’t want to have to wait until she gets to the back. I want to go pick her up right now and tell her how proud I am of her. I’m going to do that. I’m glad that Jaden Newman was the voice of reason in that moment. I was just going to wait and do whatever, but he finally cleared my brain out. Said stop thinking about the scenario and how you’re going to be perceived. You love your wife, go hug your wife, and tell your wife you love her. So, I was happy I got to do that. She very much deserved it; she took a crazy powerbomb to the apron that made me think she died in that match. I almost hit the ring, dude. I was like, it’s no DQ, maybe I can go jump Clara Carter for doing that powerbomb. But, oh man. Yeah, so that was scary. She made it through. She fought through. Fought like hell. She’s tough as nails. I know she is. So, I’m very proud of her. She’s awesome. She deserves everything. I’m happy to see her get even a little bit because she deserves so much more.”
You also recently took part in an Atomic Warfare match, very similar to a War Games match, at New South Pro. While this hasn’t dropped yet, what was it like to take part in such a cool match?
“It was pretty awesome. Any time I can get to be in any of these scenarios where it’s like, ‘Man, I was just a kid watching these types of stuff. That’s always very surreal to me. Granted, it’s on a much smaller scale; I’m not walking out to Survivor Series and doing all that. I legitimately did, though; we have TVs in the locker room, and War Pigs is on the set. We’re not starting this off until we’re all in the cage. We’re putting on War Pigs, and it’s on a loop until we go out there. Anyways, it was cool. It’s like the easiest; if I could put it in one word, it’s cool. I tried to take myself back to young Shean, Little Shean, and I’m just the biggest wrestling mark at the end of the day. I just get to put on a set of tights, do it myself, and I’ve become pretty decent at it. That’s pretty cool to me, that it’s even a thing, I could say. Being a part of that match, or just a scenario like that, I like being the guy who the companies put their shit on. That’s become a bit of a, I don’t know; it feels good to me when people are like, ‘We believe in you. We’re putting you in this scenario.’ In this match, I was the first guy in the match; I was also the one who submitted Erron Wade at the end of it. It’s cool to be given some sort of faith like, ‘We know you can do this and pull this shit off.’ Of course, it’s not without bumps, bruises, and blood. As for me, Jamesen Shook, my bitter rival from everywhere. We started the match off together. He smacked me over the head with a steel chair, and juiced me up to a degree I have never been juiced before. I’m talking Eddie Guerrero – JBL style. Blood all over the place. I was leaking all over the place. It did not feel great. Seeing so much of my life force leave my body was honestly a little bit terrifying. It was so weird that it wouldn’t stop. That’s what was scary to me. I was like, ‘Shit, is this ever going to stop? Am I going to be bleeding for the rest of my life, and is the rest of my life only about an hour? How much longer do I even have left to live?’ And I had to wrestle for at least 30 more minutes in this cage match. Like Jesus Christ. But the cool thing is, when the pictures and VOD come out, I’ll look like a warrior. That’s cool. I’ll be able to go back, maybe at some point- probably not initially. I’ll probably not initially be able to go back and watch that. It’s probably going to take some time for me to go back and get over just the amount of blood I lost in that match. But when I go back and watch that, I’ll probably be like, ‘Damn, that was a kick-ass performance. I don’t know how the f**k I got through it, but I did. I’m proud of myself for getting through it.’ That is definitely one of those scenarios where I’m like, ‘Oh man, I can’t believe I got such a long night of work ahead of me, and already put up a crazy roadblock right here in the beginning of it.’ So, cool to get to the end, cool to live through it, cool to be on the winning team. Not so cool that my boy Big Dave beat up Sanders after it, broke everyone’s hearts. Also, not cool that my boy Sean Campbell took a slam off the top of the cage and all anyone had to say was ‘All that for a hot dog and a handshake.’ F**k you guys. That’s a dick thing to say. 800 comments on that said that. Wow. Damn, that was too cool for you to say ‘All that for a hot dog and a handshake.’ Damn, you should have come up with a cooler joke. That’s also my last thing on the Atomic Warfare. The sidewalk slam off the top was cool. I don’t give a damn if you’re Jim Cornette or who you are. That’s all I have to say, Scott.”
Looking ahead, what are your future goals?
“That’s tough, actually. Once upon a time I think I’d really want to be a Fed wrestler for sure. I think now, though, I’m much more- one, I don’t think that’s ever in the cards for me. I’m 5-foot-8 or 9. Daniel Bryan did that once and won the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania, and that was cool, but I’m not Daniel Bryan. I may be a cool wrestler, and I appreciate anyone who thinks I’m a cool wrestler, but I am no Daniel Bryan, and I’m 10 years into my wrestling career already, and I certainly feel 10 years into my wrestling career already, unfortunately. As a guy who has not taken much of a break. I took a little hiatus for a few months, and I also just don’t know how to not do the things that I do. My body has just kind of now naturally become gelatinous when I wrestle, I guess. When I get thrown around, it just becomes a f**king ragdoll physics 2K-style; I have no control over my limbs. I just have to deal with the consequences of it after it happens. So, as far as the future is concerned, I just want to continue to do what I’m doing; I just want to do it on a grander scale. I want to do it for the entire country. I want to do it for different countries. I want to go all over the world, but I want to do it my way. I don’t want to do it the Fed way or the AEW way. I want to do it my way. I want to do it independently and be a world-traveled professional wrestler by the grace of just my own talent, networking, abilities, and everything. I want to be able to somewhat provide a livable income for my home with just wrestling and maybe other outside ventures. No internet stuff. Everyone loves him; he’s the greatest independent wrestler to ever live, EFFY. Literally the staple. Like, the goal post for an independent pro wrestler. That’s what I want to be. I want to be EFFY one day. I want to have a brand, a name that’s cool, that people want to be a part of in any scenario, and just go do my wrestling. But that’s like the seventh coolest thing that I’d do at that point. I’d do all kinds of other fun stuff. It’s a weird answer. Kind of all over the place. Not the usual ‘hope that I get signed to NXT in three years,’ or ‘I want to wrestle at this place this year and make sure I make it to this country, this time.’ I don’t have those kinds of timetables and goals set. I just want to be able to make something out of this. I put 10 years of work into this shit. I like to think I’m pretty good at it. I put a lot of wear and tear on my body; I’d like to pay off some of that. That’s the smallest goal. I’d like to be able to pay off the damage I’ve done to my own body, the time away from my family, the time away from my wife, the time away from anything I’ve taken time away from, I’d like to be able to pay that off someway by being a cool, world-traveled professional wrestler, and I feel like doing that would at least make me look back when I’m old and gray and decrepit and in whatever shape I’m in at that point, and be like, ‘You know, that was pretty damn cool, man.’ Instead of thinking, ‘You stupid ass, why don’t you just get a job, you dumb hippy?’ That’s really the goal. I want to make something out of it so that I could be proud when I’m an old man and maybe make some money in a real way. That would be cool.”
Any future opponents you’d like to face?
“There’s one huge one that is not like, it’s not something that anyone, unless you saw my Instagram a couple of months ago, I posted about it. I posted how much I love Tyler Breeze. But it doesn’t seem like a scenario I’ll ever find myself in because you don’t ever book Tyler Breeze to wrestle the kind of scary-looking guy. If you’re booking Tyler Breeze on your independent show, you’re not booking him to wrestle the scary-looking guy. However, if I had one single dream opponent, it’s Tyler Breeze. I am the biggest Tyler Breeze fan that exists. I don’t know what it was when I was a pre-teen/teenager, an angsty little boy, watching Tyler Breeze on NXT. He just spoke to me in a way that nobody else had ever spoken to me before. When I was younger, I was definitely not- I’m not cool now, or much of anything now, but whatever I am now, I was way less of it then. So, watching Tyler Breeze for some reason brought a confidence that I never really had out of me. I thought like, ‘I could be like that guy.’ I could be, just, the way that he talked shit is so awesome, and the way that he talked about himself is so great. So yeah, that just gave me a lot of confidence as a kid and made me feel a lot better about going to school, making me think that I was Tyler Breeze and making everyone think I was cool. And they did think I was cool. It worked. That’s the crazy thing. It worked. Everyone thought I was so cool because I used to quote Tyler Breeze in High School, then I got into all of the cool groups, and everyone was like, ‘Oh, he’s actually pretty funny and pretty cool to hang out with.’ All I had to do was act like Tyler Breeze a little bit to get my in, in there. So, I feel like I have to pay Tyler Breeze out for that by going out and taking a beauty shot and getting pinned, 1, 2, 3, and looking at the lights for the guy. I feel like I have to do favors for Tyler Breeze because he gave me the confidence to get into all the cool groups in high school and make sure I was accepted. But no. I really was just a huge fan of Tyler Breeze. My other big one was The Undertaker. But I cannot wrestle The Undertaker, obviously. So, Tyler Breeze is my one. He’s at a show, typically, right here in Knoxville, TN. He’s literally the champion of it. Ravenna got to wrestle on one of their shows recently, and I got to go be a mark for it. If you haven’t seen my Instagram and seen my mark picture with him, and my mark picture of me wearing his shirt, it’s from that show. So, he is close. He does come close sometimes. So, I’m not completely discounting it. But I’m just like, in what scenario, besides making little mark Shean Christopher’s dreams come true, is someone going to book Shean Christopher vs. Tyler Breeze? So, that’s a big one. Obviously, more like realistic could-happen, I really want to wrestle now that Joseph Sawyer’s out here. He’s a little more in my wheelhouse. Someone I could find myself against. Joseph Sawyer, if you’re out there listening, brother, hit my line; let’s make some spooky action happen. Also, EFFY. Literally the top tier of the independent wrestling scene. I’ve never had a chance to go one-on-one with EFFY. He did, however, once describe me as Mordecai if he was good at wrestling. I feel like I have too; we have to pay that off. I have to show him I really am Mordecai, but good at wrestling. Now that I’m thinking of it, wouldn’t a Shean Christopher vs. Mordecai match be cool? I have to get down to OVW and hit up- what’s his name? He has a cool name there too. Who else would be a good opponent? Those are my big ones right now. There are a couple other guys. I’d like to wrestle Jordan Oliver. I wrestled his tag partner Alec Price a couple of years ago. Once again, at the damn HOSS tournament. It seems like everything that happens in my life is at the HOSS tournament. Everything important will happen at the HOSS tournament. I wrestled Alec Price at the HOSS tournament a couple of years ago. I had a lot of fun in that scenario. But I knew Jordan for a long time. I’d like to get in there and do some wrestling with him. But, you know, he’s a completely different wrestler than when I used to watch him and be a mark for him. I think he’s way cooler now, even though I thought he was so cool, to a point where I’m like, how can someone get any cooler? Now he’s switched his wrestling style since his injury. In his return from his injury, he’s so incredible. I’d love to get in the ring and wrestle Jordan Oliver. I think he’s just the man. And yeah, just anyone and everyone. Give me them all. I want Alex Zayne. The Sauce. I’ve been a huge Alex Zayne fan for a while. He does a lot of sick-ass stuff. I’d love to get in the ring with Alex Zayne. That’s another one. I’m just reaching for the stars at this point. I’m calling them all out. All of them. Everyone. All the top guys. But yeah, I just want to make it somewhere, be able to be in a scenario where people want to see me wrestle these guys. That would be cool. One day, one day somehow, I’m going to be a guy that people are going to want, people are going to want to see Shean vs. this cool guy. Who cares? People are going to want to see Shean versus this cool guy. So, that’s my goal… Bear Bronson. You brought him up in a tag team sense earlier. I feel like a lot of my favorite, and my best matches happen when there’s just this absolute giant of a man who I’m trying to overcome. That would be another great scenario: Bear Bronson just to absolutely beat the shit out of me and me to hopefully get a couple of shots in along the way.”
