From the likes of Future Stars of Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Junkie, Rising Stars of Women’s Wrestling, and Expect The Unexpected Wrestling, these are four must-see matches from this past weekend that every fan should go back and check out. These matches include a bout between two “prodigies,” a tag team match that turned into a three-way tag match for the top prize in the PWJ tag team division, a Women’s Championship match that saw two former WWE talents go at it, who are looking to make a name for themselves on the independent scene again, and arguably one of the best young wrestlers around today battling a WWE NXT icon. 4. BYP vs. Jesse Funaki from FSW’s “Collision Course”
Kicking off this list, we saw BYP put his FSW Championship on the line against Jesse Funaki in the main event of Future Stars of Wrestling’s big event, “Collision Course.” This show was stacked, with Bret The Threat putting his FSW Nevada State Championship on the line, Ice Williams going one-on-one with Duke Lawrence, Jaden Cole putting his FSW No Limits Championship on the line against Bryce Saturn, Brittnie Brooks in action, and so much more. However, the main event saw an instant classic between two of the best youngsters on the independents today: BYP & Jesse Funaki. BYP entered this match having held the title for just over 90 days. BYP first won the title back in June when he defeated Bateman. He has since defended it twice, once against Luke Kurtis, and in a scramble match that saw him put it on the line against WWE ID prospect Cappuccino Jones, former champions Danny Limelight and Gregory Sharpe, and the most recent former champion, Bateman. BYP has been on a tremendous run as of late, as he is continuing to show the world just how talented he is. While he still has room to grow, for his age, he’s already tremendous in the ring and solid on the microphone. As for his opponent, Funaki is a second-generation wrestler. Wrestling runs through his blood, and that’s very apparent to see every time that he steps inside the squared circle. Funaki has been making a name for himself in Texas and has truly been carving his own path as a professional wrestler. The future is extremely bright for both of these competitors. Simply put, this match was a classic between two pillars of the future of professional wrestling. Now is the time to jump on their bandwagon, because I’m sure that in a few years, we’ll see both of these men on our TV screens. 3. No Bail Posted vs. Miracle Generation vs. Joseph Sawyer & Samuel Shaw from PWJ’s “Gamble It All 2”
Coming in next on the list, we saw a match that started out with Miracle Generation’s Dustin Waller and Kylon King facing off with the former Wyatt Sicks members, Joseph Sawyer & Samuel Shaw. However, this match evolved into a three-way match when Devious Cass cashed in his Casino Gauntlet Chip that he won earlier in the night in a Rumble to enter the match as a team with J Boujii. Collectively known as No Bail Posted, I am absolutely in a chokehold by this team. Based on that moment alone, I had to put this match on the list. The match itself between Miracle Generation and Sawyer & Shaw was an absolute banger. This whole show is a must-watch. We also saw another show-stealer between Marcus Mathers and JTG, a great three-way main event that saw Charles Mason put his PWJ Championship on the line against KJ Orso & Stu Grayson, Izzy Moreno put her PWJ Women’s Championship on the line against Izzy Moreno, and so much more. However, this match, and more importantly, this moment was the real show-stealer of the night. Miracle Generation entered this match with a 203-day reign with the PWJ Tag Team Championships. They have knocked off the likes of Sinner and Saint, New Fever, and The Mane Event. With every match, they continued to show why they are absolutely one of the best tag teams on the independent scene today. However, all good things must come to an end. This match, while one story closed, a brand new one opened. Devious Cass and J Boujii are two of the most fun young guns to watch on the independent scene today. Two pillars of the Northeast independent scene, Cass and Boujii have so much talent and so much potential at young ages. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again: Cass is a bona fide star. He is essentially a younger version of Marcus Mathers. That’s saying something, as Mathers may be one of the best wrestlers on this earth, at this very moment. Cass also picked up a huge win over Jordan Oliver at ETU on Saturday, which is another match that I urge everyone to go back and check out. Cass picking up these wins over the likes of Oliver and Miracle Generation is great for his morale. He also has a match next month at Blitzkrieg! Pro against Alec Price. That’s going to be an absolute banger. The moment that Boujii and Cass had was so amazing and beyond well-deserved for both of them. Boujii may be one of the most underrated guys around today. Sure, he may be doing Power Slap now, but don’t let that fool you. He is still one of the very best wrestlers around today to watch, and probably one of the most fun. Seeing this team between Cass and Boujii finally come to life, as well as Dustin Waller kicking off his singles run at PWJ – in a huge way against Nick Wayne at the next show – is just amazing. Then you had the added element of Sawyer and Shaw, who I absolutely love watching every time they get in the ring. From top-to-bottom, this was such an amazing match. 2. Zoey Serrano vs. Kay Lee Ray from Rising Stars of Women’s Wrestling “9/19/2026”
Coming in at number two on this list, we saw Zoey Serrano battle Kay Lee Ray for the vacant Rising Stars Women’s Championship at the big Rising Stars of Women’s Wrestling event on September 19th, live from Deer Park, NY. This was a blast. We saw the likes of Taylor Yorke and Dolli Darko go at it, Tina San Antonio face off with Lulu La Reina in a hardcore match, Mara Sade go one-on-one with Ruthie Jay, and so much more. However, this was an emotional night from the beginning, as Mercedes Martinez was forced to vacate the Rising Stars Women’s Championship and a potential match with Serrano due to an injury. Martinez held that championship for 196 days. Martinez’s career, unfortunately, came to an end earlier than it should have as she tore her ACL towards the end of her retirement tour. Nonetheless, Martinez will forever be one of the absolute greatest wrestlers to ever grace the sport. She’s shown her value for WWE, AEW, TNA, Ring of Honor, and countless other promotions. Not many people can say they’ve appeared on all of those shows, especially in the capacity that she did. Nonetheless, while we were sad that Serrano and Martinez didn’t get to have their singles match, as wrestling says, ‘the show must go on.’ So, Martinez hand-picked Kay Lee Ray to take her spot, guaranteeing a new Rising Stars Women’s Champion. So, the stage was set. Serrano and Ray absolutely lit each other up with chops, leaving red marks all over each other’s chests. This was a blast. It was hard-hitting, and everything you want to see when you watch a wrestling match. Both Serrano and Ray were on WWE television around the same time, but never really crossed paths. Now, they’re both hitting the independent scene and getting ready to show the world exactly what WWE missed out on. Spoiler alert: WWE missed out on an awful lot. Serrano and Ray are two incredible athletes and two amazing performers in the ring. They both have it all to do major things on the independent wrestling scene. That’s scary for all the other women; these two are hungry, and they want it all. That’s exactly what it feels like every time we see them step in the ring. I’m very excited to see where they both go from here, but one thing we know for sure is that, WWE or not, both of their futures are still very bright. 1. Marcus Mathers vs. Tyler Breeze from ETU & Marcus Mathers’ “All I Want 4”
Coming in at number one on this list by a healthy margin, Marcus Mathers went to an absolute war with ‘Prince Pretty’ himself, Tyler Breeze in the main event of Expect The Unexpected Wrestling’s and Marcus Mathers’s big joint event, “All I Want 4.” Holy hell, this show was unbelievably stacked. We saw the likes of Avery Styles vs. Joey Janela, Billie Starkz go one-on-one with Aaron Rourke, Team ID battle The Expected, Janai Kai put her ETU Coastal Crown Championship on the line against Charity King, Dustin Waller battle Gravity in a fun match, and so much more. This show may have been one of the best shows of the year. There seriously was not a bad match on the card. However, if I have to choose one, it’s the main event. Marcus Mathers always seems to go all out in the main event of his shows, and it’s easy to see why. I’m sure this feels like his version of “WrestleMania.” However, any time Mathers steps in the ring, you know you’re getting a treat. Mathers may be one of the best wrestlers around today, and it’s not a particularly close race either. It’s a damn travesty that he’s not on television yet. However, it’s only a matter of time before he will be, so I’m enjoying all of his independent wrestling dates like they’re his last. Even Mathers cut a promo after the match saying he doesn’t know “how many more of these” he has left.” So, yeah, my advice to everyone is to enjoy every Mathers’ match like it could be his last on the independents, because one of these times, it will be. But, it will be so rightfully deserved as Mathers is still one of the very best to do it. Bring him up to TV already. As for Breeze, someone who has seen the bright lights of television, he is still as much fun now to watch as he was back then. I was hooked by Breeze on NXT, and seeing him wrestle against someone like Mathers only shows that he hasn’t lost a step. I’m excited to continue to see Breeze make appearances on the independent scene. There’s a wealth of wrestlers out there for him to face off with. I hope we get to see each and every single one of those matches. All in all, this was a damn-near perfect wrestling match. Mathers and Breeze stole the show, which may have been one of the hardest things to do. Almost every match on this show would be the best match on another show. That’s how good it was.
