Naoki Tanisaki vs. Genki Horiguchi {W5} [Number One Contender Match]
This is the finals of a mini tournament to get a contender for PAC’s Brave Gate title. The night before Tanisaki beat Super Shisa with the Implant and Horiguchi beat KAGETORA with the Backslide from Heaven. Tanisaki attacks Horiguchi before the bell. He hits a clothesline for 2. He chokes Horiguchi against the ropes. He puts on a half crab. Horiguchi gets to the ropes. Tanisaki hits the DH. Horiguchi blocks the Casanova and hits a dragon screw. He hits a back suplex. He hits a spin kick. He goes for a superplex to the floor, but since that would be insane Tanisaki counters to one in the ring. Horiguchi blocks the DH so Tanisaki hits a facebuster. Horiguchi hits the Beach Break but is too beat up to go for the cover. They trade roll ups for 2. Tanisaki blocks the Backslide from Heaven and hits a kneelift. Horiguchi gets the Backslide from Heaven for 2. Tanisaki hits the FH and a back heel kick. He hits the Implant for 2. He hits it again for the win at 7:17 shown of 12:41. Tanisaki tends to bring it when he’s in the ring against his former mentor, and Horiguchi continues to rule all as a babyface. With a hot crowd this could have been a lot better, as both of these guys go nuts for attention, but even as it is it was pretty damn fun.

Tanisaki will face PAC for the Open the Brave Gate Championship on February 6th. Speaking of titles, Gamma and Naruki Doi defeated K-ness and Susumu Yokosuka for the Twin Gate belts back in November. A month later they successfully defended the titles against the super-team of CIMA and Masato Yoshino. Masaaki Mochizuki and Don Fujii earn contendership for the belts by defeating Cyber Hawk and Maraha Isappa in a triple threat match. Given the spectacular run that MochiFujii has been on, I’d say they deserve a run with the titles.
Naruki Doi © & Gamma © vs. Masaaki Mochizuki {Z} & Don Fujii {Z} [Open the Twin Gate Championship Match]
I truly believe Sukiyaki Western Django failed because Gamma wasn’t cast as one of the cowboys. Doi and Mochizuki start. Doi hits a cheap slap. Mochizuki gives him a receipt with a chest kick. He hits a back kick. They continue through a sequence that would have set any crowd on fire, but left this one politely clapping. Fujii tells Gamma to, “come on baby!” so Gamma spits in his face. They trade shoulder tackles. Fujii hits a dropkick. He chops Doi off the apron. Mochizuki hits a shinbreaker. He zeroes in on the leg. Fujii works the neck. He boots Doi off the apron. Gamma regains control with his venomous spit. Doi tags in and works the arm. He and Gamma hit a double back elbow. Gamma opens up with jabs, to which Fujii responds with a stiff smack. Doi hits an armbreaker. Gamma hits a dropkick. Doi hits the Dai Bosou. He hits an elbowdrop. Dr. Muscle runs in and helps Gamma hit a cane shot to the crotch. Gamma dribbles in Fujii’s face and then gives him the Osuikougeki. Fujii gets all fired up and cleans house. He hits Doi with a powerslam. Doi and Gamma hit Mochizuki with a double dropkick. Mochizuki hits the two of them with a dropkick. He hits Gamma with a big boot. He puts on the anklelock. Fujii hits Doi with a lariat. He hits another. He hits a third in the corner. Mochizuki hits a chest kick. Doi hits Fujii with a hurricanrana but Fujii rolls through for 2. Fujii hits a powerbomb. He dead lifts Doi and passes him off to Mochizuki for the Twister. That gets 2 when Gamma breaks up the pin. Gamma canes Mochizuki. Mochizuki grabs the cane but hits the referee by mistake. Dr. Muscle runs in and helps the champions gang up on Mochizuki in the corner. Muscle hits a 450 splash. Gamma hits the Gamma Special for 2. Mochizuki blocks the Blitzen and hits a buzzsaw kick. He hits a spin kick. Gamma hits Fujii with a superkick. Fujii hits the Nice German for 2. Doi hits the crossbody to the back. He hits the hanging senton. Gamma hits the Gamma Special. He hits the Twister for 2. He boots Fujii by mistake. Gamma hits Doi by mistake. Mochizuki hits Gamma with an axe kick. He hits the Illusion and the Saikyou High Kick. Fujii hits the Nice German for the win and the titles at 16:41 shown of 18:45. This was certainly hard-fought, but the Dr. Muscleference and the crowd’s complete indifference made the title change seem inconsequential. However, the finish was awesome, and made the new champions look like killers. That is something I can definitely get behind.

Mochizuki gets on the microphone to celebrate the title win. Genki Horiguchi and Ryo Saito come out. They don’t say anything but they obviously want a shot at the belts. Mochizuki is ready to leave but Fujii has something to say! He calls out Masato Yoshino. Yoshino says no to the inevitable Dream Gate challenge. Fujii tells Super Shenlong to come out. Shenlong brings Fujii one of the Dream Gate Lottery balls with his name on it. Yoshino berates them for trying to cheat his system. Fujii says that is most certainly is real, and that he found it on the floor at Gate of Destiny after Doi destroyed the lottery box. Yoshino doesn’t try to fight that logic, so Fujii will get a title shot on January 18th.
The show ends with Hulk and Kong fighting backstage. The two of them will wrestle each other in a singles match on January 23rd. Can Kong keep Hulk from defeating every single member of Kamikaze?
