Tonight on IMPACT Wrestling:

  • Last Sunday at No Surrender, Jeff Hardy defeated Bully Ray to win the BFG Series and earn the right to challenge for TNA World Heavyweight Championship at TNA’s biggest event of the year, Bound For Glory. Tonight he and champion Austin Aries will meet face-to-face in the ring and officially begin the build for next month’s PPV.
  • James Storm once again came up short in the BFG Series at No Surrender, thanks to a beer bottle shot courtesy of former partner/bitter rival Bobby Roode. Storm will most likely have plenty to say on the matter, and Roode himself will have a lot to answer to.
  • The war continues between TNA and the renegade group the Aces and 8’s. Will this be the week the group finally reveals its “President”?

All this and more on the “No Surrender Fall-Out” edition of IMPACT Wrestling.

[Keep refreshing this page for up to date coverage…or if you’re OCD.]

No Surrender video/slideshow recap opens IMPACT Wrestling, ending with the BFG Series winner Jeff Hardy with his arm raised.

We are live at the Impact Zone in Orlando, FL as Mike Tenay welcomes the home audience to hype up tonight’s show.

TNA World Champion Austin Aries makes his way out to the ring for the opening segment. Tenay and Taz recap his fight with The Aces and 8’s at No Surrender. Aries puts over the TNA World Heavyweight Championship and says he got a little redemption at No Surrender by beating up one of its members. Aries says he’s moving on and focusing on Bound For Glory. Aries introduces his opponent for that show: Jeff Hardy.

Hardy obliges and makes his way to the ring. Aries congratulates Hardy on winning the BFG Series, and says he showed guts and overcame all of the odds to emerge victorious. Aries says Hardy deserves the main event spot at Bound For Glory and Hardy thanks him. Aries says Hardy has many things he wants, but before he can finish that thought out comes Bully Ray.

Ray angrily storms to the ring, and paces around as a “You Suck!” chant breaks out. Ray says both Aries and Hardy are lucky; Aries is lucky Ray isn’t the one facing him at Bound For Glory and Hardy for beating him at No Surrender. Ray blames his loss on feeling sorry for Hardy and taking it easy on him. Aries says Ray is lucky he has a short memory, because last time they faced, he made Ray tap out. Aries says that since Ray thinks he took it easy on Hardy, he should face him again. Hardy is all for a rematch now that he feels better, and takes his shirt off (he means business). Ray goes to say something, but Hardy’s music cuts him off.

Tenay makes it official: Hardy and Ray will go one on one tonight!

  • Thoughts: A low-key but very solid way to open the show. It not only reestablished the importance of the World Heavyweight Championship (thank you!), but it also built up the (I assume) main event for tonight well. Ray and Aries were great on the mic as always, and even Hardy was okay with his few words.

We see a video from earlier today of an angry James Storm arriving at the Impact Zone.

*Commercial Break*

Sonjay Dutt makes his way out for the next match, an X-Division Title rematch against Zema Ion, as Tenay/Taz wish a speedy recovery for Jerry Lawler.

  • Thoughts: Very classy move on their end.

Match #1: Zema Ion (c) Vs. Sonjay Dutt for the TNA X-Division Title

The fight almost instantly goes to the floor as Dutt hits a hurricanrana, followed by a moonsault off of the second rope. They are wasting no time tonight. Dutt favors his injured shoulder, then rolls Ion back in. Dutt hits a head scissors takeover and Ion rolls back to the apron. Ion tries to mount offense, but Dutt retaliates with a hurricanrana roll-up for a quick 2-count. Dutt misses a splash in the corner but moves out of the way Ion’s splash attempt. Dutt goes to the top and Ion tries to grab him off, but it turns into a hurricanrana.

Ion attempts a sunset flip, but Dutt rolls out. Ion moves from a standing moonsault and puts him in a double arm lock/arm scissor. Dutt regains the advantage and hits the backflip double stomp from the top rope. 1…2…Ion gets his foot on the rope. Ion tries to roll outside to get a breather but Dutt rolls him back in. Dutt goes back to the top to try the moonsault double stomp again but Ion knocks him off and rolls him up for the 1…2…3! That was…quick.

Winner and STILL X-Division Champion [via Pinfall]: Zema Ion (3:28)

  • A quick but very fast-paced match and if you’re someone who loves head scissors/hurricanranas this was your jam. I enjoyed it for what it was, but it was too quick to really get into. I’m sure their No Surrender match was way better. (B-)

Ion rolls back in and hits Dutt in the back of the head with his can of hairspray. Ion then wrenches Dutt’s injured shoulder and holds his X-Division title in the air in celebration after.

TNA Tag Team Champions Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian are in Hulk Hogan‘s office. Daniels does a Hogan impression congratulating them on their win at No Surrender. The real Hogan comes in and congratulates him. Daniels offers him an Appletini of his own. Kazarian tries to kiss some ass. Hogan says they won’t fight in a tag team match tonight; they will fight in singles. Daniels will face either Chavo Guerrero Jr. or Hernandez and Kazarian will face either AJ Styles or Kurt Angle. If they both win, neither team gets a rematch. But whoever they lose to gets the rematch. Or something.

  • Thoughts: Inventive way to figure out which team gets the rematch. A little convoluted, but them’s the breaks. I assume Kazarian faces Styles and Daniels takes on Chavo.

Bobby Roode heads to the ring to explain his actions at No Surrender.

*Commercial Break*

Backstage, AJ Styles begs Kurt Angle to face Frankie Kazarian tonight. Angle asks if he can count on Styles to win given his intense feud. Styles guarantees it, and Angle reluctantly agrees. Styles walks off, and Wes Brisco comes up to hang with Angle. The two walk off, arms draped across one another.

  • Thoughts: *coughcoughACESAND8Scough*

No Surrender Recap: Bobby Roode costs James Storm the BFG Series match. Storm attacks him backstage, and they are both carried out of the Impact Zone in cuffs.

Bobby Roode makes his way out to the ring. Strangely I’ve missed seeing him over the past couple of weeks. Roode gets on the mic and declares that he’s back (in case you don’t have eyes or something). Roode recaps losing to Austin Aries back in August which currently prevents him from getting a World Title shot. Roode says he took his ball and went home, and watched James Storm finish 1st in the BFG Series. Roode asked himself why Storm should get the title opportunity and not him, so at No Surrender he smashed a beer bottle over Storm’s head and eliminate him from the BFG Series.

The music of James Storm cuts off his exposition-heavy monologue. Storm heads to the ring determined and angry. They instantly start brawling in the ring. Storm clotheslines Roode over the top rope and follows him to the floor. Storm continues to beat Roode down ringside, throwing him into the ringside barriers. Storm drags him next to the stage and throws him into a wall. Storm pushes Roode through a door and we go to commercial mid-brawl.

  • Thoughts: Whoever makes a drinking game out of TNA’s awkward cuts to commercial will be dead within an hour.

*Commercial Break*

Bound For Glory Memories: AJ Styles overcomes Sting to retain the TNA World Title in 2009.

Frankie Kazarian makes his way out for the next match. Tenay tells us over a dozen people had to separate Storm/Roode after the brawl spilled to the outside. His opponent, AJ Styles, makes his way out next.

Match #2: AJ Styles Vs. Frankie Kazarian

Styles and Kazarian trade wristlocks, and Styles gets sent into the ropes. Styles hits a series of armdrags, and Kazarian hides between the ropes to break the onslaught. Styles punches him and Kazarian falls to the floor. Kazarian gets to the apron and Styles back into the ring. He attempts a Styles Clash but Kazarian slips out. Styles instead hits a dropkick and Kazarian rolls to the floor.

Styles takes the fight to Kazarian on the outside, then heads back into the ring just in time for a commercial break!

*Commercial Break*

We’re back from break and Kazarian has Styles trapped in the corner. Styles reverses an Irish whip but gets a boot to the face. Kazarian runs at him to continue the offense but Styles catches him with a backbreaker. Kazarian backdrops Styles to the apron and attempts a suplex. Styles suplexes him to the apron next to him and then goes for a DDT. It doesn’t quite work and Kazarian goes shoulder-first instead. They continue to fight on the outside, and Styles whips Kazarian into the guard rail. Styles misses a forearm and Kazarian monkey flips him to the floor. Kazarian rolls back in and tells the ref to count quicker.

Styles rolls in and Kazarian goes for a series of unsuccessful pinning attempts. Styles blocks a punch and hits a series of clotheslines. Styles hits a flying forearm in the corner, then goes for the Styles Clash. Kazarian picks him up and drops him on the apron. Styles punches him away then hits a springboard forearm to send Kazarian back down. Kazarian rolls him up and tries to use the ropes for leverage but only gets a 2-count. Styles hits the Pele Kick and then connects with the Styles Clash for the 1…2…3!

Winner [via Pinfall]: AJ Styles (10:10)

  • Is it possible for these two to have a bad match? Didn’t think so. The seeds for a triple threat match at Bound For Glory have been planted. (B)

Hulk Hogan plays overprotective father to Brooke Hogan in his office, when Joseph Park walks in. Park says he’s making inroads in his investigation of the Aces and 8’s. Park says he’s waiting for a key piece of evidence which will be here…next Thursday. How convenient. Hogan tells Park to bodyguard Brooke while he’s in the ring addressing the Aces and 8’s. Park awkwardly calls Brooke beautiful and they make awkward improv talk. It’s awkward is what I’m saying.

  • Thoughts: I’m a mark for Joseph Park (oh snap that’s a t-shirt waiting to happen). Abyss is not missed (there’s another one!).

*Commercial Break*

Backstage, Bully Ray interrupts Jeff Hardy as he’s getting ready for their match tonight. Ray wants to make the match interesting by having Hardy put his World Title shot on the line. Hardy remains silent while Ray yells at him, until finally agreeing to these stipulations.

  • Thoughts: Interesting, if not predictable. And honestly it could go either way. Main event has become a must-see.

No Surrender Recap: Austin Aries battles the Aces and 8’s. Hulk Hogan puts the arena on lockdown.

“Not Quite the nWo Theme” plays as Hulk Hogan makes his way to the ring. Tenay/Taz are in shock at the stipulations added to the Hardy/Ray match tonight. The Impact Zone chants Hogan’s name as he basks in it. Hogan says the BFG Series put TNA in high gear and puts over how intense it was. Hogan says “the creatures of the night” came out on top and that Jeff Hardy is “not from this planet”. Hogan says he won’t stand in Hardy’s way tonight and will let him put the World Title shot on the line against Bully Ray tonight.

Hogan then shifts gears to the Aces and 8’s. He says No Surrender was a game changer in the war, and from this point forward, the Impact Zone will remain locked down. The Aces and 8’s show up on the Impact-Tron. “The President” asks Hogan if he locked them out…or locked them in. He says Hogan will have to have his head on a swivel 24/7. “The President” says anyone could be part of the Aces and 8’s and he wouldn’t know it until it was too late.

Hogan digests this information/threat as we go to commercial.

  • Thoughts: That’s the best Aces and 8’s promo I’ve heard from them thus far and introducing the paranoia element to the story is really good. It’ll have fans and wrestlers alike constantly doubting what they’re seeing and waiting for one of their members to strike. Well-played.

*Commercial Break*

We see a recap of what just happened on IMPACT Wrestling, so if you don’t remember what the Aces and 8’s said just scroll up and read it for yourself. DON’T BE LAZY.

Backstage, Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Hernandez talk about their loss last week on IMPACT Wrestling. Chavo says when he beats Daniels, they’ll get their second chance at the titles. Chavo says he’s doing it for the both of them.

  • Thoughts: Called it! Yeah that’s right I just patted myself on the back; call me the Barry Horrowitz of TV recaps (except with a better win-loss record, I hope).

Match #4: Chavo Guerrero Jr. Vs. Christopher Daniels

Daniels retreats to the outside right away to buy him some time. Finally they lock up and Daniels backs Guerrero into the corner. Daniels tries a cheap shot but Guerrero ducks and lays into him in the corner. Daniels gets whipped into the opposite corner and Guerrero stomps him down. Daniels tries to throw him off, but Guerrero responds with a clothesline. Guerrero applies a side-headlock as the crowd claps along for some reason.

Guerrero picks Daniels up and hits a horrible-looking over the shoulder backbreaker for a 2-count. Guerrero reapplies the side headlock until Daniels throws him into the ropes. Guerrero responds with a monkey flip and another pin attempt. 2-count. Daniels ducks a clothesline and rolls to the outside. Guerrero hits a somersault splash from the apron onto the “Fallen Angel” and hits a couple of uppercuts on the ringside floor. Guerrero rolls Daniels back in and jumps to the apron, but Daniels hits a running elbow to send him flying off the apron and back-first into the barrier.

Daniels goes outside and rams Guerrero’s head into the apron. They roll back in and Daniels goes for the pin. 2-count. Daniels whips Guerrero into the ropes and hits a knee to the midsection. He goes for the pin. 2-count. Daniels lays some more knees into Guerrero’s midsection then takes him down and goes for the pin. 2-count. Daniels applies a waistlock on the mat. They get to their feet and Guerrero elbows out. They trade right hands and uppercuts. Daniels gets the final strike but Guerrero slams him to get the last left. Guerrero hits back to back shoulder blocks followed by a head scissor takedown and a dropkick. Guerrero goes for the pin. 2-count.

Guerrero hip-tosses Daniels all the way to the floor. Daniels grabs the Tag Team Title and tries to hit Guerrero with it while the ref is distracted but he ducks and hits the Three Amigos instead. Guerrero heads to the top rope and connects with the Frog Splash for the 1…2…3!

Winner [via Pinfall]: Chavo Guerrero Jr. (6:34)

  • A bit sloppy on Guerrero’s part, but an enjoyable match overall. Not as good as Styles/Kazarian though. (B-)

The latest TNA Gut Check contestant Evan Markopoulus gets his chance to tell his story as we see a slideshow of his indy career. He makes Alex Silva look like Chris Masters. His big character trait: he’s 18.

  • Thoughts: I am not feeling this one. But he does live in Worcester, MA which is next to my old hometown so I like him a lot better than Kris Lewie.

Tara is headed to the ring next!

*Commercial Break*

We see a recap of the James Storm/Bobby Roode brawl from earlier in the show. What is this, Raw?

Backstage, James Storm says he didn’t get enough of Bobby Roode tonight and he will make his life a living hell. He will be calling him out at Open Fight Night next Thursday.

Bound For Glory Memories: Gail Kim talks about becoming the first Knockouts Champion in 2005.

Tara makes her way out to the ring as Tenay/Taz talk about her loss to Miss Tessmacher at No Surrender. Tara introduces her “best friend” Miss Tessmacher to the ring. She’s also the “Lovely Lady of the Day” on Sports Illustrated’s website. They attribute this to Brooke Hogan which is dumb and false. Tara says that part of her was upset for losing last Sunday but part of her was also happy because that meant she did her job and taught Tessmacher well. Tara says Tessmacher will always be her boo and she loves her. Tara says she wants to properly give her the Knockouts Title. Tara takes the belt, raises it in the air, then puts it around Tessmacher’s waist. Tara then raises her hand in celebration, and tells Tessmacher to showboat in the corner. Tara steps out of the ring and claps as Tessmacher celebrates.

Tessmacher finishes celebrating, then runs right into a Tara clothesline. Tara executes the Widow’s Peak and rolls her over. Tara stands over the fallen champion with a scowl on her face.

  • Thoughts: That was a rough segment to watch. Tara overdid it in her praise of Miss Tessmacher to the point where an attack seemed way too obvious. But at least the Knockouts have a storyline.

No Surrender Recap: Jeff Hardy gets injured by the Aces and 8’s before his BFG Series final match. Hardy ends up making his way out for the match against Bully Ray regardless. Hardy provides commentary as we see clips of him winning the match.

We see a split-screen of Hardy/Ray heading towards the ring for the main event, which is next!

TNA President Dixie Carter is discussing the Aces and 8’s situation in Hulk Hogan‘s office. They are joined by D’Lo Brown, Al Snow, Brooke Hogan, and Bruce Prichard. They argue as to how to best deal with the situation. Carter says there has to be an Aces and 8’s member on the inside and that everyone, including the company itself, need to be protected. Prichard says it could be someone in this room. People start accusing one another. Brown says it’s better to look them in the eye than run from them and Hogan agrees.

  • Thoughts: I appreciate what they wanted to do there, but that was pretty tacky. Also it went on way too long.

Main Event: Jeff Hardy Vs. Bully Ray [Winner Gets the World Title Shot at Bound For Glory]

Ray attacks Hardy from behind as the bell rings, but Hardy quickly fights back. Hardy hits a hurricanrana followed by a back kick and goes for the pin. 1-count. Ray rolls to the outside and Hardy kicks him through the ropes. Hardy then connects with a flying cross body to the floor. Hardy eggs on the crowd as we go to commercial.

*Commercial Break*

The action has returned to the ring, and Hardy and Ray hit a double clothesline on one another. Ray drapes an arm over Hardy. 1…2…KICK OUT…and another commercial.

*Commercial Break*

We’re back again and Ray is control. Not for long, however, as Hardy floors him with a kick. He follows it up with a splash from the second rope for a 2-count. Hardy hits the ropes, and gets a boot to the face. Ray goes for the pin. 1…2…KICK OUT. Ray connects with an elbowdrop and gets another 2. Ray stops a Hardy comeback and hits a splash for the 1…2…KICK OUT. The crowd chants Hardy’s name to get him back in the match.

Ray measures Hardy and connects with a running clothesline. Ray hits another elbowdrop and goes for the pin. 2-count. Ray measures him once again but Hardy ducks the boot. He attempts the Twist of Fate but gets pushed face-first into the corner. Ray then whips Hardy in the other corner and his injured shoulder rams into the steel post. Hardy falls to the outside. Hardy rolls in to break the count and give himself more time, but Ray hits him with a forearm from the apron. Ray rolls Hardy back in, and Hardy starts fighting back. Ray overpowers him and chops him in the chest.

Ray whips Hardy in the corner and hits a splash. He tries again but Hardy gets an elbow up and hits a sort-of corkscrew splash from the top rope. Both men are down and stunned. They get to their knees and trade blows. As they get to their feet, Hardy is winning the war but Ray stops him. Hardy regains the advantage and hits the legsmash between the legs followed by a dropkick for the 1…2…KICK OUT. Hardy sets up for the Twist of Fate again, but Ray reverses it for the Bully Bomb. 1…2…KICK OUT.

Ray goes for a second Bully Bomb but Hardy spins around and connects with a DDT for the 1…2…KICK OUT. Hardy goes to the top, but Ray slaps the top rope to crotch him. Ray climbs to the second turnbuckle and pummels Hardy. Ray connects with a superplex for the 1…2…KICK OUT. Ray drags Hardy to the corner and goes for the corner splash. Obviously he misses it. Hardy goes to the top rope but misses the Swanton Dive. Ray picks him up and connects with a Bully Bomb for the 1…2…KICK OUT AGAIN. Ray can’t believe it.

Hardy ducks the big boot and hits two Twists of Fate (first one was botched). Hardy takes his shirt off and heads to the top rope. Hardy connects with the Swanton for the 1…2…3!

Winner [via Pinfall]: Jeff Hardy (13:37)

  • I’m going to admit something to you: I got really invested in this match. Although I guess in hindsight Hardy winning was a foregone conclusion, I totally thought Ray was going to steal it and get himself in the main event at Bound For Glory. A hard-hitting good match between the two with a lot of drama and some really good near-falls. Bully Ray is a goddamn master at putting people over. (B)

Jeff Hardy celebrates his win as Tenay/Taz hype Aries/Hardy for Bound For Glory. Fade to logo.

Overall Show Grade: B

  • Best Match: Jeff Hardy/Bully Ray
  • Worst Match: Chavo Guerrero Jr./Christopher Daniels
  • Best Segments: Aries/Hardy/Ray opening segment, the Storm/Roode brawl
  • Worst Segments: Tara/Miss Tessmacher, that ridiculous pow-wow in Hulk Hogan’s office (although yay for a D’Lo Brown cameo!)
