Last week Beyond Wrestling presented the third annual Heavy Lies The Crown, which took place, as usual, on New Year’s Eve. The show took place at the White Eagle in Worcester, Massachusetts. Your commentary team are Paul Crockett and Smart Mark Sterling. Your ring announcer is Rich Palladino. Header photo credit: @JWasherBeyond.

The opening match of the night starts off as a wrestling clinic between Wheeler YUTA and Fred Yehi. This doesn’t exactly last long as Yehi places YUTA’s left arm into the ring post. Yehi continues the punishment by hitting an exploder suplex onto the hard floor. Yehi controls the match and is able to lock in the kuji clutch, but Yuta is able to break out. He follows up with a dive to the outside onto Yehi and a huge missile dropkick. Yuta locks in his submission and Yehi escapes it by biting the hand of his opponent. Yuta escapes the second attempt at the koji clutch and he rolls up Yehi for the victory. Good opener to the show.

The following match as announced as a No Disqualification Match. Nick Gage doesn’t waste any time in this match against Slade. Gage sets up two chairs in the middle of the ring. The two men trade shots until Gage puts an end to it by throwing a chair at Slade’s head. Slade comes back and brings a door into the match. He sets it up in the corner and sends Gage through it with an exploder suplex.

Gage comes back with a suplex through two open chairs. Both men then hit each other with pieces of the broken door and trade shots in the middle of the ring. Somehow Slade kicks out of the chokebreaker. Gage sets up a door onto two folding chairs but it backfires as Slade is able to hit a superplex through the door. Slade ends up kicking out of another chokebreaker but Gage follows up with a piledriver and powerbomb to pick up the victory.

The third match of the night is for the IWTV Independent Wrestling Championship as WARHORSE defends the championship against Manders. WARHORSE gains the early advantage in the match but Manders is able to stop him from going to the top rope. He comes back with a huge stalling vertical suplex. WARHORSE comes back with a missile dropkick from the top rope. Another attempt for a high risk maneuver is stopped by Manders and is countered with a huge overhead toss from the top. He follows up with a huge gut wrench sitout powerbomb but it only gets a two count. This is followed up by a lariat but WARHORSE kicks out at two. WARHORSE is able to come back and hits a double stomp for the win.

David Starr’s music hits and the two men have some words as Starr makes his entrance towards the ring.

The match starts off as a back and forth contest with neither man gaining a full advantage. Erick Stevens gains a slight advantage after a headbutt to the head of Starr which opens him up. Stevens tosses Starr over the top rope and tries to follow up with a low pe but is caught by a forearm from Starr. Starr follows up with the cherry mint DDT onto the ring apron. Later on in the match Starr ends up on the outside again, but this time Stevens is able to hit the low pe. Starr stops Stevens from entering the ring and hits a tope to the outside. Back inside the ring Stevens hits the End of Heartache but only gets a nearfall out of it. Stevens follows up with a Boston Crab but Starr is able to get to the ropes.

Stevens powerslams Starr into the turnbuckles and attempts a powerbomb but Starr counters with a Code Red. Starr comes back with a Blackheart Buster and an Avalanche Blackheart Buster but can’t keep Stevens down for three. Starr follows up with a lariat but Stevens kicks out at one. He is eventually able to put Stevens away with a series of Han Stansens. What a match!

Larry Legend introduces the Legit Legends team which includes Chuck O’Neil and Violence Is Forever members Dominic Garrini and Kevin Ku. The match starts off with all six men brawling. Larry Legend plays distraction allowing Legit Legends to gain the advantage and cut Pinkie Sanchez from getting to his corner. Eventually he’s able to make the tag to Chris Dickinson. Dickinson is fired up but this doesn’t last long as he is tripped by Larry Legend. Legit Legends do the same thing they did with Pinkie and they cut him off from tagging his tag partners into the match.

Eventually Jaka is able to tag in, and he cleans house. Jaka hits a crossbody to the outside onto Garrini and Ku. He follows up with a crossbody to O’Neil inside the ring. Both O’Neil and Garrini are able to lock in rear naked chokes on Dickinson and Jaka. Pinkie enters the ring where he is met by Ku. Ku’s attempt at stopping Pinkie fails as Pinkie hits a burning hammer to Ku onto everyone. Pinkie and Jaka hit dives to the outside taking out Garrini and Ku. The three men triple team O’Neil and they pick up the victory by hitting O’Neil with a Doomsday Chokeslam. After the match Jaka grabs Larry Legend and Pinkie hits him with a double stomp off the top rope. Team Pazuzu celebrate their victory.

The two men from Buffalo come out of the gate fast. Both man trade shots and a series of German suplexes. At one point Daniel Garcia suplexes Brandon Thurston onto the hard floor. Later on Garcia comes with a fury of moves. A buckle bomb, suplex into the corner, running DVD into the other corner, and a powerbomb. All this only gets a two count, but Garcia is there to lock in the Deathshooter. Thurston breaks out of it by kicking Garcia in the head multiple times. Garcia tries to come at him but he collapses. Thurston takes advantage and hits a brainbuster for the win.

The following match between Tony Deppen and Christian Casanova starts off as a back and forth match until Deppen finally gains the advantage. Casanova comes back with a springboard clothesline. He follows up with a springboard reverse leg drop to Deppen hanging on the ropes. Deppen blows snot onto Casanova and the distraction allows him to hit a brainbuster. This only gets a nearfall.

Casanova is able to come back with a slingshot DDT onto the apron. He’s unable to keep the momentum going as Deppen moves out of the way of the Sucka Kick off the top rope. Deppen hits on tope con hilo and a forearm to the back of the head of Casanova, but can’t put him away. Casanova takes advantage of a slight opening and puts Deppen away with the Sucka Kick from the top rope. Huge victory of the Pride of New England Tournament For Tomorrow winner.

The deciding factor going into this match might be the special guest referee Ava Everett, who has been caught in the middle of these two men fighting for weeks. Anthony Greene throws his jacket into the face of Josh Briggs, but the distraction doesn’t last long as Greene eats a big boot from Briggs. It appears that Greene’s left knee is injured shortly into the match but he’s playing possum as he knees Briggs in the face and follows up with a DDT. The momentum stays in Greene’s favor for a while as he locks in a half crab on Briggs. Briggs gets to the ropes but Greene doesn’t break the hold. Ava does a snapmare on Greene in order to stop the submission.

Briggs ends up hitting a Go 2 Hell, and despite a fast count from Ava, Greene still kicks out. Greene then pins Briggs but Ava doesn’t make the count. Ava accidentally kicks Briggs in the face and Greene follows up with a piledriver. This only gets a two count. Greene brings a chair into the match, he ends up getting low blowed. Briggs follows up with a chokebomb for the win. After the match Greene grabs a mic and says him and Ava are done.

The following match is a rematch to their match at “Please Come Back” from 2018. The match between these two friends start off with some nose booping. John Silver controls most of the match and cuts off Kris Statlander every time she tries to make a comeback. Take Me To Your Leader and an axe kick doesn’t keep Silver down for a three count. Silver comes back with a poison-rana, kick to the back of Statlander’s head and the Spin Doctor. Statlander doesn’t stay down. Statlander goes for the Area 451 but Silver gets his knees up and rolls up Statlander for the victory. Great match between the two.

Rich Palladino ringing in the New Year by having a toast with Bear Country in the middle of the ring. The clock hits midnight and Team Tremendous make their way to the ring. Both teams brawl and Dan Barry hits an asai moonsault taking out everyone on the outside. Tremendous throw Bear Boulder out the emergency exit to the outside. They double team Bear Bronson as he’s opened up with both a beer bottle and a cheese grater to the head. Boulder makes his way back into the building with a car bumper and takes out his opponents.

Later into the match Bill Carr opens up a pinata as legos and tacks pour onto the mat. Boulder ends up on the receiving end of a Boss Man Slam onto the legos and tacks. Tremendous hit their doomsday sliced bread onto Bronson, but only gets a near fall out of it. Skewers make their way into the match and everyone receives skewers to their head. A door full of mouse traps is bought out from the back. Dan Barry ends up on the receiving end of a powerbomb through this door. Bear Country hit the Elevator Drop onto Carr but he kicks out at two.

Team Tremendous pile a bunch of items in the middle of the ring, which include chairs, pieces of a door and a toilet seat. Team Tremendous go for their finisher once again, but it’s stopped by Bronson with a staple gun. Carr is suplexed onto the pile. Barry is then chokeslamed onto Carr. Bear Country put an end to the brutal match with an elevator drop onto both of their opponents.

Overall:

As Heavy Lies The Crown becomes a yearly tradition to watch, either by attending live or watching at home live on IWTV, it is now Beyond Wrestling’s second biggest show of the year, right behind Americanrana. I felt as this year was the best installment yet. David Starr vs. Erick Stevens was a late match of the year candidate. Other standouts on the show include John Silver vs. Kris Statlander and the Fans Bring The Weapons main event. Great show from beginning to end.

Make sure to watch the replay of this show on IWTV, as well both seasons of Uncharted Territory and other events from Beyond Wrestling dating back to 2013. With an IWTV subscription you’re also able to watch other promotions such as Black Label Pro, Freelance Wrestling, ICW New York, and plenty others.
