HOG’s The Beginning, which took place last night in the NYC Arena, is in the books. Here is a rundown of what the show offered:

We started off with announcer David Adams asking the crowd to stand for a 10 count salute to honor the memory of Jay Briscoe. Crowd chants Dem Boys!

HOG Tag Team Championship Match: Mane Event (Midas Black & Jay Lyons) (C) vs The Bookers (Amazing Red & BXL)

BXL takes the mic and insults the fans saying everyone should be kissing Amazing Red’s feet. No one would be here if it wasn’t for Red! Brian and Red ambush the champions from behind. This match was controlled throughout by Brian & Red, while continuously taking cheap shots behind the refs back in classic heel fashion. The finish saw Mane Event hit their finisher on BXL. Midas was going for the cover when Red came in and hit him with chair. The referee calls for the bell. The Bookers continued to be beat on Mane Event with chairs and left them laid out in the ring. Result: Mane Event defeats The Bookers via DQ.

Crusierweight Championship Match: Mighty Mante (C) vs Nolo Kitano

Action started of fast with Mighty Mante hitting a suicide dive on Kitano. This match was a high flying action packed match! Both wrestlers had nice moments and high spots. Mante was finally able to deliver his code red finisher for the three count to retain his title. Result: Mighty Mante defeated Nolo Kitano via pinfall to retain title.

HOG Women’s Championship Match: The Ultra Violette (C) vs Vita Van

Match started off with both women trying to gain the advantage. Vita Van controlled most of the match. The momentum changed when both women went for a big boot and connected on each other. Action went back and forth from there. Violette was able to reverse a victory roll to pick up the win. This contest was overall a very good and solid wrestling match. Result: The Ultra Violette defeats Vita Van via pinfall to retain her title.

The Black Hand interrupts the introduction of the next match by David Adams. They come to the ring and cut a promo stating they are here to crush everyone in House Of Glory.

Number 1 Contender Match For Cruiserweight Championship: Encore vs Darren Richardson vs Raheem Royal vs Ichiban vs Smiley vs Lio Rush.

The crowd was surprised and very happy to see Lio Rush! Royal takes out everyone with a high flying splash off the top rope onto all the wrestlers outside the ring. The wrestlers did a good job keeping the action in the ring, which made it easier to follow. There were typically two to three wrestlers at a time in the ring battling it out. Only downside to that and a match like this, there were always three to four competitors outside the ring just laying around, waiting for their queue to come back in.  Fight forever chants came from the crowd during the match. The contest comes to a close when Encore and Royal are left in the ring. Encore hits his finisher on Royal for the pinfall. Result: Encore defeats Raheem Royal via pinfall to become # 1 contender.

Announcer David Adams said they’re taking a short intermission. From there they go to montage honoring Jay Briscoe.

Singles Match:  Low Ki vs Detective James of HOGPD

Low Ki comes out firing and took control of the match early. Momentum changed when Low Ki was raining elbows on James in the corner. James took out Low Ki’s leg and his head hit the turnbuckle. For remainder of the match, James was in control. James attempted to hit Low Ki with a taser but instead tasered the ref when Low Ki ducked. Low Ki hits missile drop kick and then Coup De Grace. New ref came into the ring for the three count. Result: Low Ki defeats Detective James

HOG Crown Jewel Championship: Charles Mason (C) vs Bryan Keith

This was a great battle that went back and forth to start off. The match eventually wound up spilling into the crowd and announcers table. This is where the match went sideways for me. There were multiple times the ref should have either counted them out, or disqualified them, however he let the match continue.  Action finally made its way back into the ring. Keith had the pinfall, but the count was broken up by Mason’s bodyguard. Mason took a tie and choked out Keith while the referee was distracted. He disguised it as a sleeper hold and the referee checked Keith’s arm, he was out causing Mason to win by submission. Result: Charles Mason defeats Bryan Keith via submission to retain his title.

HOG World Championship: Jacob Fatu (Champion) vs JTG

Always a crowd favorite, the crowd was firmly behind Fatu at the start. He controlled the action in the early part of this match.  After some back and forth action, JTG hits his Brooklyn’s Edge on Fatu. However injuring his shoulder earlier in the match, JTG was not able to capitalize by covering right away! This gave Fatu the time he needed, and he kicked out after two. Fatu then hits two super kicks, a Somoan drop, and finished with his moonsault for the 3 count to retain his championship. This was good match and a nice way to close out the show! Result: Jacob Fatu defeats JTG via pinfall to retain his title.
