The Super Indy tournament is one of the longest running tournaments in the country and has included some wrestlers who have become the biggest stars in the world. The previous winners have included Chris Sabin, Delirious, Larry Sweeney, Jerry Lynn, Sami Callihan, RJ City, Josh Alexander, Adam Cole, Jonathan Gresham, Wardlow, Cole Carter, and Joaquin Wile.

This year’s tournament includes one past winner, some former IWC champions and a few new faces. The event will stream live this Saturday October 7th at 7pm eastern on FITE+.

I will highlight the first round matches of this historical tournament.

Opening Round Match with the winner facing Anthony Catena in the next round: Andrew Palace vs Jock Samson

As a way to punish Jock Samson, IWC owner, Justin Plummer, has forced Jock to have to win an additional match in order to win the tournament. Jock is the current Super Indy champion, so as is tradition he will be defending the championship throughout the tournament. Also, if Jock losses at any point during the tournament he will be fired from IWC.

Jock has become one of the fan favorites as he has been battling for his career against Plummer. He will have a very tall test ahead of him, as he will have to win four matches to retain his title and continue his career with IWC. His first match will not be one that is easy either, as he will face 2-time former IWC Super Indy Champion Andrew Palace.

Palace has accomplished just about everything that you can in IWC except winning the Super Indy Tournament. This is his fourth appearance, previously falling to eventual winners RJ City and Dylan Bostic in Super Indy 13 and 14, as well as falling to Gresham in an incredible match at Super Indy 15. Palace will not only be looking to win this match for himself, but also to make his boss happy, by getting rid of Jock Samson.

Channing Decker vs Anthony Young

This is a match-up between one of the most accomplished wrestlers in the tournament against one of the most talented young wrestlers in the Pittsburgh area. Channing Decker has collected championships wherever he has gone, whether it is in his home country of Canada, or in the IWC, where he is multiple time tag team champion as one half of The Fraternity with Trent Gibson. Channing’s last match in IWC was an incredible main event match against RVD.

Anthony Young is an incredibly talented wrestler who has been climbing the ranks in the Pittsburgh area and beyond since graduating from the Iron City Wrestling Academy, where he was trained by two people who have been in the Super Indy tournament, Andrew Palace and Chris LeRusso. He is probably the most exciting wrestler in the tournament, as he has endless amounts of speed and athletic ability. Young has won his last three singles matches in IWC, but Channing is a big jump in competition. Young is totally going to have to bring his A-game to win this prestigious tournament.

Alexander Hammerstone vs Duke Davis

This is a match-up between the two largest individuals in the tournament. Both have been champions in multiple companies but are looking for their first taste of singles gold in IWC.

Hammerstone has worked most of his career in the western part of the US and in MLW, where he held the MLW National Open weight Championship and the World Heavyweight Championship. Hammerstone has competed at IWC one other time and that was in Super Indy 20 back in 2021. He defeated Jake Something in the first round, but was defeated by the eventual winner, Cole Karter in the semifinals.

Duke Davis has been a tag team specialist most of his career. With his partner, Ganon Jones Jr, they are the current Revenge Pro and Remix Pro tag team champions. They have also held the IWC Tag Team Championship for a record six times. Duke is currently the most focused as he has ever been in his career and is looking to prove that he can defeat anyone on his own.  This will be an incredibly hard-hitting match-up with the winner certainly being a little beat up whenever they go on to the next round.

Jonathan Gresham vs Kevin Blackwood

This first round matchup pits two of the most technically sound wrestlers against each other. This will be Blackwood’s first singles match in IWC, while Gresham is very familiar with the Super Indy Tournament and the Super Indy Championship.

Gresham won Super Indy 17 after making it to the finals of Super Indy 15 and 16, coming up short to Josh Alexander and Adam Cole. Gresham has had some of the most exciting matches in Super Indy history and will surely be a favorite due to his talent and experience in the tournament.

While Kevin Blackwood has not been in the Super Indy tournament before, he is not a stranger to tournament action, as he has been in such prestigious tournaments such as the West Coast Cup, Limitless Wrestling’s Vacationland Cup, and PWG’s Battle of Los Angeles.

Blackwood has used his brutal strikes to win championships in C4, ESW and Destiny World Wrestling. Many consider him one of the top independent wrestlers of the past couple years. This first round match could be the match of the night and what everyone is talking about the next day.

In non-tournament action you will see a 6-man match between Spencer Slade, Glenn Spectre and Canaan Kristopher against Bill Collier, Bulk Nasty and Sam Handeman. There will also be a match between two newcomers to the IWC women’s division, the powerful Lexus Synn against the lucha Pegasa.

On the Facebook Pre-Show there will be a coach’s challenge scramble with Tyler Brooks vs Matthew Jaeger vs Felix Koz vs Chase Gold vs Dior Castro. This should be a very exciting match, as all of these young wrestlers have been very impressive recently.

I have watched wrestling all of my life, from WWF and NWA to ECW and then indie shows. I have been steadily going to independent wrestling shows since 2002.
