Retro Review: Limitless Wrestling – Fortune Favors The Bold

Limitless Wrestling’s Fortune Favors The Bold took place on June 13th, 2021 from the Yarmouth Amvets in Yarmouth, ME. Our friends over at Limitless were generous enough to release this full show on YouTube, so I will be watching this in the background while I work and hope that my boss doesn’t read this review.

The announcers are Randy Carver, Johnny Torres, Jon Alba and Sam Laterna.

Opening Contest: Prestigious (BRG, Channing Thomas & Mac Daniels) vs. Team Sea Stars (Ashley Vox, Delmi Exo & Rip Byson

Jon Alba is ringside for Prestigious and graces us with a song before the match. The Sea Stars hit the ring in a hurry and the fight is on. Quickly we head to the floor for some more brawling. Delmi Exo gets some rapid fire chops on BRG and hits a Northern Lights suplex for two. Ashley Vox dives in with a rolling senton for two, then hits a fisherman’s suplex for another two. Rip Byson tags in for a delayed vertical suplex. Team Sea Stars hit tandem elbow drops off the apron to the floor on Prestigious, as Jon Alba gets chased away. The assault on BRG continues with Exo getting a neckbreaker. Alba runs interference allowing Channing Thomas to pull the legs out from Exo on the apron. Channing tags in officially now getting a bodyslam and kneedrop for two. Mac Daniels tags in for the first time as Prestigious maintains the advantage. Vox gets the tag with a flying headscissors and lariat for two. BRG and Thomas get a cheap shot followed by Daniels delivering a Northern Lariat. BRG enters, getting some offense in finally, but runs into a boot. Vox makes the hot tag to Byson, who gets corner clotheslines and a double-stack Samoan Drop. Tag is made to Delmi Exo and they hit a triple tope suicida. Byson sets up chairs on the floor and looks to slam Daniels through them, but Alba again interfers leading to Mac booting Byson down into the chairs he set up. Vox fires up, but Prestigious gets a sick looking Doomsday Device to gain the win. Pretty cool opener. ***¼

Match Two: Becca vs. Davienne

Slightly weird not hearing Becca singing during her entrance. Davienne catches a superkick and smacks Becca in the face. Handspring into her own slap from Becca, then drops Davienne over the middle rope and hits a dropkick. Top-rope crossbody block gets two. Becca charges but runs into a superkick for two. Snap suplex with a bridge gets a two count for Davienne. Corner splash followed by a side suplex gets another two. Big boot puts Becca down as we head to the top, where Becca lands a meteora. Thesz Press and a big boot of her own by Becca. Running bulldog connects, followed by a flying back elbow for a close two. We go through a pinfall sequence ending with a sitout powerbomb from Davienne for two. Boston Crab applied, but Becca crawls to the ropes to break. Becca lands a Codebreaker, but can’t hit a tornado DDT. Instead Davienne plants her with a hanging DDT for two. She charges and runs into a Becca superkick for two. Big kick misses leading to a Davienne spear for another close two count. Release German suplex, but a baseball slide misses and Davienne hits the ringpost. Becca climbs and hits an impressive 450 splash to end it. Started a bit slow but the last several minutes leading to the finish were very good. **¾

Match Three: Alec Price vs. Kevin Ku

Kevin Ku stings him with a leg kick and forearm to the chest. He locks in an STF, then turns over and just hammers Alec Price in the face. Alec manages to hop to the corner and snap off a tornado DDT that gets two. Price lands some kicks and a spinning back suplex for another two. Ku catches a stomp and turns it into a heel hook, but Price throws some wild punches to retake control. Price charges but hits the buckle, and Ku delivers an Olympic Slam and a dragon suplex. Another attempt is blocked, with Alec getting a spinning bulldog for two. Price flies off the middle rope but gets caught in an anklelock. Ku puts him on the top buckle but cannot get a superplex. Price misses a leg lariat but gets a doublestomp for two. Up top where Price gets a superplex and rolls through, only to be countered with a fisherman’s buster by Ku. They duke it out from their knees which Ku gets the better of, but Price comes back with the SuPrize Kick to secure the win. Good match with a couple of rough patches. ***

Match Four: The Competition (Champ Matthews & Conner Murphy) vs. The Mane Event (Jay Lyon & Midas Black)

Before we start there’s a kip-up contest, which I’m giving to Jay Lyon based on points. Lyon and Midas Black deliver some atomic drops and a hanging DDT to Champ Matthews for two. Oh a hula-hoop comes out but The Competition cut off a dive through it to take over. Bronco Buster in the corner to Lyon. Slingshot into the corner, and Conner Murphy hits a German suplex for two. Backbreaker from Champ gets another two on Lyon. Lyon gets an enzuigiri but Conner pulls Black off the apron before the tag can be made. Conner hits a low dropkick for two, followed by a snap suplex. Matthews jumps in with an Arabian Press but a doubleteam move misses allowing Lyon to finally make the tag to Black. Samoan Drop and a 619. Frog splash on Champ gets two. Black goes back up only to get hit with a rana off the top by Champ. Lyon hits a Finlay Roll and a moonsault for two. Black nails a Sky Twister as Lyon tumbles over the top. Champ hits Black with a jumping knee strike and Corner Chaos gives this one to The Competition. Not my favorite.

Match Five: Ava Everett vs. Jody Threat

Ava Everett’s entrance is great with her ripping up signs and blaming fans for ruining her walk out. Jody Threat uses the power advantage to toss Ava across the ring and shoulderblock her down. Michinoku Driver gets a two count. Everett catches Jody with a superkick sending her out to the floor. Ava hammers away in the corner and gets a swinging neckbreaker but only for one. She looks for another neckbreaker but Jody tosses Ava with a backdrop. Bicycle kick by Threat followed by a clothesline. High-angle German suplex gets a two count. That looked nasty. Jody charges but runs into a boot, and Ava gives her a springboard cutter for two. Dragon Sleeper applied but Jody quickly throws Ava off again. Everett manages to ram her head into the ringpost and hit a senton, but pauses to scold a fan and Threat quickly rolls her up in a schoolgirl pin to win it. Bummer. That Ava Everett is a heat machine however. **½

Match Six: Ricky Archer vs. Robert Martyr

Ricky Archer is now known as Ricky Smokes. Chain wrestling to start us out, with Robert Martyr slapping the back of the head of Archer for extra sting. Archer comes back with a nice dropkick and corner forearm. A shotgun dropkick sends Martyr to the floor but he avoids a dive. Ricky tries a slingshot spear but jumps right into a kneestrike. Martyr hits a brainbuster for two. Big chop and a dragonscrew, right into a single-leg crab hold. Archer makes the ropes but remains on the defensive receiving a backbreaker and a nice vertical suplex for two. Double clothesline spot has both guys down. Martyr tries a crossbody but gets caught, and Archer gets a TKO for a two count. Wheelbarrow slam for another two. Martyr comes back with a Sick Kick and a Gibson Driver to finish. **¾

Match Seven: Beef The Freak vs. JD Drake

Beef offers a handshake but gets kicked in the face and dragon suplexed quickly for two. To the floor where JD Drake continues the beatdown. Beef eventually turns the tide sending Drake into the ringpost knee-first. He tries a Stinger Splash into the post but misses, and JD gets a rolling senton back inside for two. Drake continues the vicious assault, getting an overhead belly-to-belly for two. Vader Splash gets another two. Beef pulls JD into the buckle by the tights, and drills him with a lariat for two. Freak does some choking in the corner, then delivers a double-underhook suplex for two. JD reverses and Irish Whip sending Beef hard into the turnbuckles. Bodyslam and a headbutt by Drake and he goes up for a moonsault which gets two. Beef gets a dropkick and Saito suplex for two. He looks for a piledriver but Drake can’t stand. Uranage lands instead getting two for Beef. Freak puts on the Claw hold but Drake busts out of it and gets a snap DDT (a la Arn Anderson) to get the pin. They basically beat the heck out of each other for 15 minutes and it was enjoyable. ***½

Main Event: MSP (Aiden Aggro & The DangerKid) vs. The Buffalo Brothers (Daniel Garcia & Kevin Blackwood)

DangerKid starts with Kevin Blackwood. Blackwood hits a PK so DangerKid returns the favor. Blackwood with a back-kick and the tag is made to Daniel Garcia, the Limitless World Champion at this point. Aiden Aggro gets the tag and MSP doubleteam the Buffalo Brothers, sending them scurrying to the floor. Garcia and Blackwood avoid dives and compose themselves. Danny steps in to lock up with TDK, but Blackwood takes a cheapshot at Aggro and the heels take over control. Kid bonks their heads together and makes the legal tag to Aggro who runs wild briefly, but Garcia attacks the injured right shoulder of Aiden to take back over. The Brothers continue to work that shoulder for a while. Aggro gets a few hope spots and eventually makes the tag to DangerKid who hits a running PK on Blackwood. Lobster Roll connects for two. MSP hits an inverted flapjack on Kevin followed by Aggro delivering a tope suicida for two. Garcia launches himself back with a Shining Wizard to TDK, and the Buffalo Brothers hit Total Elimination but only get two. Powerbomb from Blackwood and DangerKid falls right into a rear-naked choke from Danny. Kevin puts a choke on Aggro, but Aiden manages to dive onto Garcia while still in the choke. MSP hits Over/Under on Garcia for two. TDK hits a Cyclone suplex on Garcia, while Aggro DDT’s Blackwood and all four wrestlers are down. Blackwood gets dumped to the floor and MSP hits the Drip Drop on Garcia, only for Kevin to pull the referee out at two. Danny grabs the title belt and drills DangerKid with it, but only gets two. Aggro pulls Blackwood out to the floor and DangerKid gets a Sick Kick, but rolls right into a Sharpshooter by the champion. Aggro crawls back in to prevent the tap out, as Blackwood quickly puts him in an armbar on the bad shoulder. Garcia relentlessly stomps on the back of DangerKid and the ref calls it to give the Buffalo Brothers the victory. Really good tag team bout. ***¾

Final Thoughts: The opener and main event were very nice bookends to this event. You also get JD Drake beating people up, and a young Alec Price match against Kevin Ku. Plus Ava Everett in a solid bout, only losing due to a miscarriage of justice.
