Pro Wrestling EVE presented “Beer, Brawls and Burlesque” on July 3rd at the Big Penny Social in Walthamstow, London.
It was an event that set the stage for two upcoming events, Elite Encounters and Eve vs the World 2. It also included an incredible hardcore match between Skye Blue and Emersyn Jayne, the EVE debut of Maddy Morgan and the in ring return of Kay Lee Ray.
The Eve Champion, Session Moth Martina comes to the ring to open the show and issues an open challenge to anyone who has never challenged for the EVE championship. This brings out Aliss Ink and Lucy Sky. This means Martina will need to defend her championship against two of the hardest hitters in EVE. Martina gets taken out with a belt shot from Lucy. Then Ink takes the belt and looks to hit Lucy with it, but does not want to win that way. Martina gets taken to the back and Lucy and Ink battle it out, but Martina does not stay in the back too long, as she fights her way back to the ring to defend her title. The match is pretty even with Lucy using her power, Ink using her kicks and Martina using her heart. All three women are fighting out of the corner and Lucy powerbombs Ink, but Martina hits Lucy with a backstabber followed by a Jagerbomb for the win.
A #1 Contenders Match for the EVE Tag Team Championship pits NyteSkye (Skye Smitson and Violet Nyte) against LALLIE (Lana Austin and Hollie Barlow). Rhio storms the ring and attacks Hollie, choking her out and giving her a piledriver on the steps, while Nyteskye holds Lana. Lana takes on Nyteskye by herself after Hollie gets taken away. Lana put up the best fight that she could, but Nyteskye was just too much for her and they came away with the win. Nyteskye and Rhio were not particularly well liked going into this match, but they are absolutely hated now.
Dan Read, one of the owners of Eve, has the ring announcer warn the crowd that this match could spill all around the arena, as Emersyn Jayne and Skye Blue make their way to the ring. They quickly go to the outside of the ring and Emersyn hits a diving kick, driving a chair into Blue’s face. After they fight for a while on the outside, Blue takes another chair to the face and starts bleeding like only Skye can. This seems to only fire up Skye, as she goes under the ring, gets a kendo stick, skewers, chairs and more. Both of these women are bloody and no doubt in pain, but you see smiles creep on their faces and I don’t think there is anywhere they would rather be.
Emersyn hits a Minge Driver through a table on the outside of the ring, but somehow Blue kicks out of the pin attempt. As we get close to the 4 minute mark, Dan says that we are going Full Spirit of Eve and we are getting rid of the clock. Blue tells the EVE crew to set up a table, and they would not, so she whipped them with a belt, so they would obey. Blue hits a rana off the top rope, throwing Emersyn onto the table, but the table did not break. She then grabs Emersyn and hits her with Code Blue for the win. After the match Skye Blue tries to break the table to no avail and then announces that will be back at Eve. This was an incredible match that only Eve and these two performers can give us.
When we return from intermission we have Alexxis Falcon against Aluna. Alexxis looks to be taking her opponent for granted and slows the match down. Luna is newer to EVE, so Alexxis tries to use her experience to her advantage. She tries to use her quickness, but cannot keep the advantage. Luna goes off the ropes, but Falcon kicks her in the crotch, spits in her face, hits a swinging neck breaker, then off with her head. Alexxis got a convincing win, but it may not have been as easy as she thought it would be. After the match, Abi brings out a letter to Alexxis, and it is a drawing of Hyper Active taking off Alexxis’ head. It appears that Hyperactive will be returning from Japan soon and they will be looking for Alexxis.
The Showstoppers, Maddie Morgan and Melissa Fierce, make their tag team EVE debut to face the EVE tag team champions, French Art (Corey Zero and JGU) in a non-title match. French Art were playing around a little bit behind Fierce’s back, which fired her up. She tags in Morgan, who is experienced, but is making her EVE debut. Morgan gets in some offense, but French Art isolates her in their corner. NyteSkye make their way to the entrance ramp and have a seat to watch the champions. Showstoppers finally get some momentum, hitting a Magic Killer. Maddy does not have much left, but is able to avoid the offense from Corey. Corey locks in a Boston Crab, but Maddy is able to hold on and we go to a time limit draw. Maddy Morgan had a very impressive debut, she survived a lot of the best that French Art had and still continued and held on. French Art can not feel great going into their match with Nyteskye, but they are still the champions, and I don’t think these two women will ever be short of confidence.
In the main event we have a match for the #1 Contender for EVE International Championship between Rhio and Kay Lee Ray. The crowd is firmly behind Kay Lee Ray. It does not appear that either wrestler likes the other too much and they will enjoy proving they are better. Rhio has been able to stay in control of the early portion of the match, but Ray has been able to lock in a couple submission attempts. Ray withstands just about everything that Rhio has and comes back with a Gory Bomb and Swanton, but Rhio rolls to the outside of the ring. Rhio hits a brutal package piledriver on the apron. Lana Austin tries to come out, but is held back. Ray dives at Rhio, but Rhio moves and she hits Lana. Rhio is distracted by all of this and Ray quickly makes her way back in the ring and rolls up Rhio for the win.
I think that this show did a lot to build up to the upcoming shows, continue rivalries and make some new ones. We will have French Art and NyteSkye somewhere down the line, Kay Lee Ray vs Miyu Yamashita at EVE vs The World 2 and The Brawling Birds against Hyperactive. We will also see a continuation of a feud between Lana Austin/Rhio and Hyperactive/Alexxis Falcon.
Skye Blue against Emersyn Jayne was the show stealer and Blue really seems to turn up the violence whenever she is in Eve. Blue really seems to love this environment and I am really happy to hear the she will be returning. Someone that I would love to see return is Maddy Morgan, as she showed her toughness putting on an incredible display against the Eve Tag Team Champions on an incredibly hot day. I also think that Aliss Ink continues to be impressive and has really earned her spot as a regular on the EVE roster.
