More exciting than Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov competing for the tag team titles…it’s Hit or Miss Volume 9! Joining me this week as usual are Matt Waters and Chris GST! Join us for a fun discussion on ROH, WWE, PWG and Chikara!

Hit or Miss: Old School Raw
Matt Waters: Hit AND Miss. Parts were funny, parts were painful; the entire episode was up and down. I appreciated the general look and presentation of it, and some of the cameos were funny, but the big dance segment for example was horrendous. That tends to be the way with these kind of themed nights.
Chris GST: Hit. It was great and really brought back some fun times. It also showed the huge lacking in current talent and employees. t wasn’t just the nostalgia either, many of the current counterparts were just outshined by the former employees. I don’t just mean JR either. Bob Orton Jr despite a few slips was much better on the mic than his son Randy and back in the day Bob was considered a subpar promo. Roddy Piper literally made Survivor Series 2010 for me mean something when it comes to the main even match. If this show did anything it clearly showed that the current talent needs to step their game up quite a few notches.
We’ll say 0 for 1 on that because of the dance segment. It was just painful.
Hit or Miss: Eddie Edwards winning Survival of the Fittest
MW: Miss. I love Eddie Edwards, I really do, but this was pointless. He’s the TV Champion. Holding that title got him a main event match with Tyler Black, and his association with Davey means he’s always a stones throw away from the top. Champion vs Champion matches are easily set up so why give him a guaranteed title shot that could have easily gone to someone who needed it? Colt Cabana needs to break out again, Kenny King’s star is rising, Claudio is hot right now, Steen needs a get-out-clause. All of these were better options.
CG: Hit. : Here’s to hoping, though I wouldn’t bank the house on it, that Davey wins the World Title and that somewhere down the line we get a better version of the match Eddie and Davey had on HDNet for the TV Title.

Hit or Miss: El Generico’s new look
MW: Miss. Go to my ROH Recap and look at the picture. This isn’t even a serious question.
CG: Hit. He’s distraught, he’s unhappy and this is what it shows.

Hit or Miss: PWG having such a long gap between events
MW: Hit. I think it gives them an advantage over other companies, particularly ROH. By holding so few shows and having such a wide-open roster they can basically show us something we’ve never seen before every single time. ROH are on TV every week, hold 2 shows a month, four iPPVs a year, and have a pretty much locked roster. It’s harder for them to surprise us than it is for PWG. I think they’d lose their wow factor a little bit if they were more regular.
CG: Hit. I would say miss but I’d rather wait long periods than have them not be able to have shows at all.

Hit or Miss: Daniel Bryan’s series of WWE ppv matches
MW: Hit. He’s had the match of the night every time out since he returned and in my opinion that’s not just limited to PPVs. Go get ’em Dragon!
CG: Hit. He has taken over Chris Jericho’s spot in that he is giving the fans great matches no mtter if he wins or loses. That’s a great role for him and it appears that WWE recgnizes that.

Hit or Miss: This year’s Torneo Cibernetico
MW: Hit. I haven’t actually seen it yet, but if it’s even half as good as it sounds it’s awesome. I appreciate attention to detail in wrestling, and CHIKARA does it better than anyone. So many intertwining stories weaved together into what should have served as the season finale and final defeat of the BDK in my opinion.
CG: Hit. I haven’t seen it yet but from everything I read it was a damn good event. I’ll leave something like this to our resident experts of Justin Houston and Kevin Ford

  1. The Torneo Cibernetico was fantastic. Great wrestling, fantastic storytelling, everything that would make someone a proud fan. I’m not saying it was a 5 star match ( I have it at ****1/4) but its in my running for Chikara match of the year. The whole event is worthy of having. Get a hold of the DVD as soon as possible!
