AIW Cibernetico De Mayo 2
Where: The Outpost Concert Club, Kent, OH
When: 05/05/23
Streamed on FITE+

Match 1:
Vik Vice vs Anthony Young

So how do you get things going in a clown car sized venue that would have Swoggle looking for a jar of Vaseline so he could grease his way to safety and air?

You hire Vik Vice and Anthony young. This one reanimated the Zombies a little; it was a high flying, no bullshit wrestling dance; a good first round of drinks for those watching and in attendance. Vice got the W here as a result of a reversal and roll up; his first with AIW.

Match 2:
Dominic Garrini vs Cisco Silver

If you want a banger to watch today, well, look no further.

It seems like anything with Garrini is just an impressive, ass-clenching affair and this tango of shoot style wrasslin’ did not disappoint.

Although Silver was the showman and heel in this exchange, these 2 didn’t really have time to stroke anyone’ balls because they spent too much time kicking the shit out of each other. Whether it was early bout grappling, a brain shattering exchange of chops and blows or Cisco’ wheel barrel suplexes, this one was intense from start to finish. Garrini picked up another win here via a muscle buster from the 3rd rope. But, let it be known, Silver held his own throughout and made a statement of his own.

Match 3:

Joselin Navarro vs Ziggy Haim

A clash of opposing and distinct characters often lends itself to interesting results. Navarro and Haim backed up this statement quite well yesterday evening. The fun loving Navarro seemed to be the singular target of brute force for the no nonsense, edgy Haim.

These two were the first to take the fight to the floor and made brilliant use of little, tight as fuck space. Haim seemed to have the upper hand physically and fandom wise until Navarro turned some of her love into hate and began flipping the script here on end.

The brawl became even ended when things returned to the ring. The match progressed superbly with impressive physicality and story telling as both women stood toe to toe with each other.

Navarro gets the pinfall in this battle via a series of smash mouth moves including a killer double knee to Haim’ face. She remains undefeated in AIW action.

Match 4:
AIW Tag Team Title Match
Money Shot (Elijah Dean & Zach Nystrom) vs BitcoinboiZ (Eric Taylor & Mikey Montgomery with the Duke)

This had the potential to be a great tag throwdown and for the most part, it began on an auspicious note. The champs took the offensive lead quite quickly through some lightening fast maneuvering. Before long, Money Shot responded with an counter attack that slowed things down and gave them the upper-hand.

Sadly, things fizzled out and lost momentum when Taylor landed awkwardly from off the top turnbuckle and got sidelined leaving Montgomery alone; turning things into a handicap match. Money Shot got the win rather quickly via a roll-up to become the new tag champs. Their victory danse was bereft of flowers and fanfare as the focus was turned towards Taylor being attended to by emergency personnel.

AIW owner John Thorne later confirmed the injury to be a broken ankle.

Had Bitcoin retained, this would have made the team 4-0 in their reign on the 1 year anniversary of being active competitors for the promotion.

Match 5:

Tom Lawlor vs Joshua Bishop – Prince of Darkness Match

Decided via a spin the wheel, make the deal from Lawlor, the spinner dial landed on “Prince of Darkness” to determine the type of match the competitors would have. For those of you who have never witnessed such a thing, this meant that both Lawlor and Bishop would have their head covered in a black eyeless hood and thus forced to go into this affair blind, so to speak.

Stumbling around like a bunch of drunks on skid row, both mean brought on the chuckles and entertainment splendidly. After accidentally beating the ref into a unconscious sludgy substance due in full part to their visual handicaps, Bishop was the first to play dirty and relieve himself of his “darkness” and attacked a still head draped Lawlor.

Eventually, both men regained and forced their access to light, at least temporarily and took the fight into the crowd, to the bar and then back to the ring. They even took a brief breather from the circus after John Thorne brought them both shooters to drink.

In the end, Lawlor picked-up the submission win via an arm-bar when the then awakened (thanks to Garinni) and bamboozled ref was able to catch Bishop tapping out; both men once again vested in their hoods and the ref completely unaware of the game of ruse that went on during his forced slumber.

Match 6:

Cibernetico 16 Man Elimination Match:
Team Shaw (Arthur McArthur, Austin James, Calvin G. Lewis, Chuck Stone, Malcolm Cambridge, Sam Holloway, Shaw Mason & Wes Barkley) vs Team Smooth (Brian Carson, Derek Dillinger, Marino Tenaglia & Philly Collins (PME) Pretty Boy Smooth, Sidney Von Engeland, The Duke & Tyson Riggs)

An 8 on 8 competition under Lucha elimination rules, this nearly 60 minute battlefest brought some of the best in AIW to the fore to offer one individual a shot at Matt Cardona and the Absolute title at Gauntlet for the Gold on May 12th.

Although slightly longwinded and slow to build momentum and pop, the boys nonetheless brough it on satisfactorily. Props to Derek Dillinger (the Intense champ), Wes Barkley and Shaw Mason for valiant and noteworthy efforts and performances and the Duke and PME for applying the heel edge to the main event. Nothing amuses more, I contend, than seeing the Duke use a boot so masterfully.

Although it looked like PME was in place for one of the members to take the win and carry out Cardona’ plot to eliminate all immediate threats from the title picture and his defense next week, Sam Holloway crushed those dreams mercilessly with a pinfall on Philly Collins.

Looks like Cardona is in it neck deep at Gauntlet for Gold; he’ll need an army and maybe more to take down the young bull. It will be interesting to see how he grabs this one by the horns.

Parting words:

This was another solid night of wrestling and fun for AIW. Although Cardona’ absence was felt on more than one level, the show none the less went on effectually showing its fanbase and viewers that there is plenty of up and commers and seasoned talent ready to carry the torch with brass and balls.
