More anticipated than TNA Turning Point…its Hit or Miss Volume 7!!! Joining me this week we’ve got Matt Waters and Chris GST. Join us as we discuss some ROH, PWG, DGUSA and who knows what else!
Hit or Miss: Claudio Castagnoli not defending the PWG Title at Cyanide
Chris GST: Miss. I understand that they are wanting to show case one of the hottest acts in wrestling right now in the 2010 version of the Kings of Wrestling.  They are show casing their Tag Titles as well despite them not being on the line.  But I also feel that they could have at least given the new champion a forum to show what kind of champion he was going to be.  Come on, a Double C vs. Chris Hero has to be in future of the PWG championship at some point, but I get not giving us that.  Why not then Double C vs. Brandon Gatson?  Gatson is climbing his way up in the PWG rankings so give him the first title shot.  Come on PWG.
Matt Waters: Hit. Let me know a title match that would be better than Pelegro Abejas vs Kings of Wrestling.

Hit or Miss: Jimmy Jacobs will hold singles gold in DGUSA

CG: Hit. If DGUSA wants to make themselves an actual promotion in the US and not just seen as Dragon Gate in the USA they need to have a champion that the fans can get behind and Jimmy Jacobs has been very important to the brand of DGUSA IMO.   Jacobs running alone in DGUSA pretty much screams that he’s going after the Open the Freedom Gate Title.
MW: Hit. One of the highest points of Sopolsky’s booking in my eyes was always the Age of the Fall. Jacobs was the Raven to Gabe’s Paul Heyman. It was very unfortunate that Gabe was let go and Jimmy had his personal troubles to derail his titanic heat. Now that he’s cleaned up and is reunited with Gabe it seems inevitable he’ll get his ultimate moment of redemption.

Hit or Miss: The American Wolves breaking away from Shane Hagadorn

CG: Hit.
American Wolves vs. Kings of Wrestling.  Need I say more?
MW: Hit. They were de facto faces before the split, Hagadorn’s heel status stood out big time. By beating down a guy the fans have always despised it cemented the Wolves’ turn, whilst simultaneously triggering an instantly logical feud with the Kings that I’m hoping provides a match of the year candidate despite being the night before an iPPV.
2 for 3
Hit or Miss: An underdog will win Survival of the Fittest this weekend
CG: Hit. In the past this has always been my favorite tournament within ROH other than their early Round Robin Challenges.   With two of the up-n-coming talents in ROH.  Seeing as how a win could actually get the ROH fans to accept the winner as long as he puts on a good show ie Austin Aries from years back.
MW: Miss. I’d love it if Kyle O’Reilly or Adam Cole somehow pulled it off, and I have faith that one of them is going to pull off an upset and make it into the finals, but in terms of the final winner? I think that’ll go to one of the bigger names, of which there are several who are difficult to pick between. As much as it pains me to say it I think Colt Cabana is walking away with the W. If you consider him an upset then feel free to take my answer as Hit.
3 for 4
Hit or Miss: Kevin Steen is the MVP of Ring of Honor to this point in the year
CG: Hit. Major hit. He’s one of the most dynamic heels of this time and no doubt the Steen/El Generico issue has been one of the best laid out feuds in ROH for the past year.   Though he’s pulling the Batista again I feel that he’s going to stick around for most of 2011 if not all of it.  He is definitely helping put ROH on the map though in 2010.  I’ve seen more threads about Steen this year alone and that always puts eyes on ROH.
MW: HIT. Nobody has come close. Tyler had some very, very critical months, but Steen began the year as public enemy number one, has cut the best promos in the company, and been involved in some of the best matches of the year. Everything he touches has turned to gold. If you need any evidence of his importance, watch Epic Encounter III. He made Player Dos look like a million bucks and perfectly explained his actions towards Generico all in one night. It was his show. I’m 95% sure he writes those Open Letters himself, and if he does that only adds to his year of excellence. I just hope they find a way to bring him back if he loses at Final Battle.
4 for 5
Hit or Miss: Indy wrestling will lose another major star to the “Big 2” in the next 6 months.
CG: Hit. It’s inevitable and most likely will happen.  Not saying I want it to but I can see it.
MW: Miss. Who is there to take right now? ROH have locked almost all the viable contenders into contracts, with the exception of Homicide who has an outside shot at returning to TNA. To me the most desirable non-ROH talents are Jon Moxley, Johnny Gargano, and of course Austin Aries. Gargano is locked up by DGUSA, I believe Mox is too, and I think Gabe will just about keep hold of Aries for 6 months, although I’d be shocked if he weren’t contracted by WWE or TNA this time next year.

  1. I don’t see Aries ever getting on in the big two. He’s too small, and too much of an asshole, from what I’ve heard. I don’t see him as being worth it for either TNA or the WWE to bother with. I wish Steen had a better look, because I think that if he did, people in WWE and TNA would be interested. But, as it is, he’s just too fat.

  2. Aries has been in TNA before, there’s no reason he couldn’t go back. Neither should turn their noses up at someone with his combination of charisma, mic skills and ring-work. He’s short, sure, but where Low Ki and Dragon got accused of not having the personality for the WWE, Aries has it in spades.

  3. Claudio is almost dead-set to end up there. He’s open to the fact he’s a fan of it, he’s tried to go there before, and he talks about wanting to go on NXT. Hero however… I’m not sure. I think he enjoys the indie lifestyle far more than most, so he’s probably content. He seems to make an awful lot of money for an indie wrestler.
